This review is from: Building Tomorrow's Company: A Guide to Sustainable Business Success (Hardcover)
This book explains the new economy to the reader and dwells on how companies are building businesses that make equal sense to both shareholders and society. Drawing upon his own interest in the interdependence of technological and change and economic development, the author positions his book on the current revolutionary phase in market-based capitalism.
His approach balances short-term (and long-term) business priorities and shareholder value with sustainability, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental accountability. The simple but stark message the author conveys is that if businesses are to succeed - or even survive - in the 21st century they will have to be more inclusive not just of their investors and shareholders' interests but also of social and environmental interests in an ever more knowledgeable world.
Some of the topics in the book include - why attitudes are changing, why purpose and values matter, inclusive leadership, sustainability, engaging with stakeholders, measuring social and environmental performance and designing tomorrow's companies. The book is divided into three parts. In part I, the new economy and the changing business climate is explained. Part II dwells on prevalent and upcoming values and models and finally Part III talks about inclusive leadership and organisation.
This book I feel is free-flowing and overall the author has offered some fresh perspectives on investment and governance. This book could be useful for anyone ranging from management students to present day managers.
