Product Description

Product Description

Lime is the best and most versatile binder in the world, but there is a lack of information and guidance on the use of this vital building material. Architects, enthusiasts and professionals within the building trade should find "Building with Lime" a valuable reference tool. This technical manual is a starting point for those considering lime as a building material. It is also a general reference for the broad range of uses for lime in construction. Drawing on the authors' experience of using lime in building, it provides the reader with a wealth of practical advice that includes: a clear explanation of all the major uses of lime in building such as mortars and plasters, painting and finishes, ceilings and foundations, repair, maintenance and conservation; and a chapter on testing and standards covering limestone recognition, and field testing to ensure reliable materials and workmanship for the production and use of building limes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long awaited!, 9 Sep 2002
This review is from: Building with Lime: A Practical Introduction (Paperback)
A long awaited practical guide about building lime. The book lays down the bare facts and dispells the many myths and misconceptions about lime as a building product today. This is one of few publications which documents the use of lime in a contemporary context alongside lime in conservation, whilst other authors neglect the case for lime in new work. Full of evidence of case studies and information from outside sources as well as the authors' own experiences, this book is an indispensable guide for any memeber of today's sustainable design team!

This review is from: Building with Lime: A Practical Introduction (Paperback)
I bought this for my husband who is renovating our house and has only been using lime for a short time. He was really pleased with the book and has found the instructions and tips very clear and helpful. Our internal walls are now looking very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mindblowing, 23 April 2006
By Segue Fischlin III - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Building with Lime: A Practical Introduction (Paperback)
An unassuming cover and title do not come close to revealing the riches within. This book embodies a passion rarely found in how-to-manuals that belies the author's awareness that he is archiving an artform that has been nearly lost to us. Very well-organized, easy to read and thorough, this should be the bible of building and sculpting with lime.

The introduction alone will change the way you see concrete (i.e. portland cement) forever. If you are even remotely concerned with a healthy and sustainable future for our cities, this book is a must-have.
