    Raghu Yeluri is a Principal Engineer and lead Security Solutions Architect in the Data Center & Cloud Products Group at Intel Corporation with focus on virtualization and cloud security usages, solution architectures and technology initiatives. In this role, he drives security solution Pathfinding and development to deliver hardware-assisted security solutions that enable deep visibility, orchestration and control in multi-tenant Clouds. Prior to this role, he has worked in various engineering and architecture positions in systems development and deployment, focusing on service-oriented architectures and large data analytics, in Information Technology and Manufacturing Technology groups during the last 15+ years at Intel. Raghu has multiple patents filed in security, attestation and control in virtualization and cloud computing, and he is a co-author of a book, Creating the Infrastructure for Cloud Computing: An Essential Handbook for IT Professionals. He holds a MS degree in Computer Science, and a B.S in Electrical Engineering, and was involved in multiple Artificial Intelligence/Knowledge-Engineering startup ventures, prior to joining Intel.

    The book I read to research this post was Building the Infrastructure For Cloud Security by Raghuram Yeluri et al which is an excellent book which I downloaded for free from kindle. This book is about the infrastructure and security that must be provided by Cloud Computing Providers. They are companies that rent out space on their servers to other companies or individuals and often will either provide it free or for a few dollars per month especially with small companies. Some big companies may pay a lot more and may even require an entire server or several servers. These data centers will typically cost around $200 million and have thousands or even millions of clients most of whom will be small companies. One issue is bandwidth and if one client has a lot of traffic will it affect other clients. One way around this is servicing 2 regions from the same data center so that when one region experiences heavy traffic the other region in another part of the world is relatively light. This only works for the biggest providers. Some cloud providers only work with linux while others give several options. Another issue is if one user uploads a virus or worm it can potentially attack other users at least on the same server. Intel have developed open attestation which as the name suggests is an open source standard program for dividing and protecting different clients. Of course things like anti virus and anti spyware software are even more crucial in this kind of situation. A lot of the security is provided by the Cloud Provider. This makes it more difficult but not impossible for potential criminals to hack companies servers due to the huge amount of financial clout these Cloud Providers have and can spend on security.     Found it good as a beginner, covering security architecture in detail and the solution components. hardware trust security and network security concepts are covered with practical examples. Found it difficult to correlate the information security covered in chapter 8 and 9 with the previous chapters...

    This book introduces the different security solutions and products supported by Intel around the trusted Cloud concept. The book covers the context of Cloud computing and how new security approaches are required to face the current challenges (firmware attacks, bootkits, etc)

    I would say two main topics drive the whole book: the tandem hardware-cryptography and the idea of trust chain. On these two topics authors set up their idea of building a trust chain from a secure boot foundation (compute domain) and then extending this protection to the network and storage domains in the Cloud.

    It is interesting knowing how the new perimeter is defined in terms of data, its location, and the Cloud resources processing it. I liked the chapter on boundary controls in the Cloud (Geolocation, Geo-fencing, Geo-tagging and Asset Tagging)
