Product Description

Review

This book is a description of the fascinating process that would lead through the design of the structure, the detailing, the construction and the fitting out. It is not a technical treatise in any sense, though the basic sketches could be used to build a similar structure. There are many good photos to back up the text, and they give a better sense of scale than the line illustrations. The book is well written with a good deal of wit and logical explanation, by a permie who is obviously in tune with living sustainably and willing to eschew much of the baggage we take for granted, but is still able to live simply and luxuriously. Highly recommended. --Michael Guerra Permaculture Magazine 27

A staggering amount of advice from an author who clearly knows his stuff --Wave Magazine

An excellent read, providing a moving and witty account of the building process --Building For A Future

I loved this little book. Tony and his partner Jane built their house out of logs and earth with a turf roof on a community in Wales, this is the story of building the house. Tony's motto is "keep it funky", and it shows- this house looks nothing like our suburban boxes, and nothing like conventional "owner-built" houses in this country, but it works! Low-impact, low-cost, livable, and using simple techniques. This book does not give a lot of in depth detailed step-by-step guidance, as every house project will be different, but has some great ideas and useful information. As well as the basic building techniques used, the book also looks at the non-standard water, power and waste management systems in the house. As well as being practical, this book is laugh-out-loud funny- highly recommended for wannabee outlaws and dreamers!

simply brilliant! 26 April 2010

Format:Paperback
This is the answer to the world's problems (not just housing) in my opinion.

Small, self-built dwellings, built from local resources (thus, very low cost) on a plot of land which provides many (if not all) of your daily needs (food & fuel).
My idea of heaven! Now I just need to convince my wife :)

Don't think, just buy it now!!!

Excellent little book 15 Nov 2011
By Sean
Format:Paperback
I thoughly enjoyed this book, which at times has laugh out loud moments and is full of very interesting and useful knowledge. When I finished reading the book I re-read it straight away as it was that good. It has practical steps and pictures on how to build your own round house as the title of the book states but also information regarding aspects of permaculture, planning law and simple community living.

If you yearn for a simple and ecological lifestyle then this book will have pride of place on your book shelf.
