Book Description

Building a Business on Bacon & Eggs
Introduction
1 It’s not about bacon and eggs Some people, like Andy Lopata, who is the Managing Director of Business Referral Exchange (BRE) Networking, are employed to run breakfast meetings. Andy has made a business out of helping others to
build their business over a plate of bacon and eggs. As a result, he spends his entire working day focused upon and building a community of strong contact breakfast groups, which meet weekly around the UK.
Andy is not just focused on ensuring that each of BRE’s groups meets at the designated time and place each week, but also on putting into place a national infrastructure of training, communication and marketing to support every member and help them to achieve their goals from the meetings.
Terry O’Halloran, on the other hand, is busy running a Financial Services Practice where he is Senior Partner. Only a fraction of his time is devoted to running the local breakfast club for which he is responsible.
It took him three years to get his club started a little less than 18 years ago. Today he runs six breakfast meetings a year on the very successful format he has devised.
Time management is the essence of a good organiser. And the
exceptional time management skills shared by Terry and his
personal assistants during that time (Pam, Louise and Nicki) bear testimony to the fact that once you get the right people involved and the organisation and time management right, then the breakfast club format
delivers cost effective benefits for all participants.

Building a Business on Bacon & Eggs
2 Stephen Harvard Davis is a Business Relationship Specialist who began his working life training at the Savoy Hotel in London. Later he managed hotels that accommodated up to 600 guests and which regularly hosted conferences for up to 1,000 delegates. He is now the
Managing Partner of The Business Relationship Consultancy, which advises individuals and organisations on how to increase profits through their business relationships.
A significant part of his working practice consists of getting people together. The breakfast meeting is just one of the tools that he uses. With his experience in organising large and small business meetings for others and his understanding of the mechanics of hosting a meeting, Stephen brings to this book his expertise for organising
a successful business events. You can see evidence of this in the comprehensive checklists we have added throughout the this book and as well as at the end of every chapter.
Whether running breakfast meetings is your job, you merely
wish to learn from the business experiences of other people, or you want to expand your knowledge, the business breakfast club should be, in these three writers’ minds, an essential part of your business strategy.
‘Building a Business on Bacon & Eggs’ is not about eating a cooked breakfast, but it does help us to remember that the pig is committed and the chicken merely contributes. In addition, while bacon and eggs may at first seem to have nothing in common, together, they are both a feast
and a catalyst for great ideas.
Whether you are a committer, and you take on the running of the operation and organisational side, or you are a contributor (and please don’t just be a taker), you can gain much from what is in this business book from the diverse experience of its three authors. This book must be part of your self-development rather than shelf development programme.
The authors have combined to produce a book that shares their collective insights into making the most of networking meetings.

Building a Business on Bacon & Eggs
3 Nowhere will you find a more concise pathway to business
success than in the pages of this book, encapsulating, as it does, the experience of its authors and the Aladdin’s Cave of the breakfast club itself.
Success is a journey and, wherever you are on your particular journey, this book will help take you on to success’s more rewarding levels.

From the Publisher

Building a Business on Bacon & Eggs

Written by "three good eggs" this is a book that really does bring home the bacon.

Using the Personal Computer as a metaphor each ‘connection’, with a printer, a scanner and so on, improves the working capacity and efficiency of the machine.

So it is with people. The authors – Steve, Andy and Terry all use the principal of networking (as with computers) in a variety of very different ways to suit individual needs but, improve the capacity and efficiency of the people in any group using the defining logic expressed in this book.

This is a definitive work – there is no doubting the authority of those that put it together.

Improve your bottom line, your working knowledge, your interaction with other business people by using this very effective guide to how its done – and enjoy the meal in the process.

That is the message that clearly comes from Building a Business on Bacon & Eggs. You would have to be pretty ‘hard boiled’ not to find it an entertaining and profitable read.

A recession breaking book, a way to resolve business difficulties, meet people of influence and bring back your bottom line. Whether you are an individual or a corporation, "Building a Business on Bacon and Eggs" is about forming and running mentoring groups. They work for you by sharing ideas and best practice in small cohesive groups.

Move your peer group and your business activity up a notch through simple activities that only take an hour or so a month.

Read the case studies of those who have participated and prevailed against the odds.

"Building a Business on Bacon and Eggs" is a well written `step by step' approach to running your own business mentoring group. For the cost of a breakfast it can feed you for a lifetime.

It worked for me and it will work for you.

If you are looking to start and develop your own networking group, this book is an excellent source.

Plenty of tips of do's and don'ts.

Lots of checklists.

If you get a chance to hear any of the authors speak, grab the chance, all three are worth listening to

Not Just Breakfast 20 Jun 2005
Format:Paperback
This book sets out to show how meeting with others before work starts can help individuals with a (usually) small business to build their business through introduction and word of mouth.

It taps the popular desire to be able to meet regularly to have business secured virtually before the working day starts.

The authors have a wealth of experience of this phenomena within the United Kingdom. Originally imported from the USA, the authors have adapted this simple and effective idea to UK tastes.

One of the Authors, Andy Lopata, heads up networking with the Business Referral Exchange (BRE) which has seen explosive growth within the UK over the past few years as businesses realise that attaining business through sharing expertise, experience and connections is a guaranteed way to develop growth. Andy shares several of the experiences, some hilarious, of his network that allow newcomers to hit the ground running.

Terry O'Halloran adds his experience of running a highly successful breakfast group as a sideline to his main business.

Stephen Davis comes at the topic from an organisers' point of view to demonstrate how you can use this type of meeting to significant effect.

All in all this comprehensive book has something for everyone whether the reader wants to make their membership of such a group effective or is interested in setting up such a meeting from scratch.

The book is colourful and easy to read, with a handy summary or check list at the end of each chapter and enlivened with real case studies throughout.

I enjoyed this book and commend it to anyone who wants to get business through meeting others.

The authors certainly know their onions and not just their bacon and eggs!
