Product Description

This enjoyable, engagingly readable book provides a detailed roadmap for rebuilding and restoring unit-construction Triumph and BSA twins without spending a fortune. The book is organized just as you would a rebuilding project, starting with selecting a bike to work on and finishing with bringing all the pieces together to ride. It contains the practical, down-to-earth information you wish the factory manuals had, but don't. Brown passes along the tips, shortcuts, and money-saving advice he has acquired over a span of 20 years working with British motorcycles. Every aspect of refurbishing unit-construction British twins is covered: engine work, transmissions, frame repairs, shocks and forks, brakes, tanks, and those pesky Amal carbs and Lucas electrical systems. The book also helps you choose a bike to buy, including how to spot bogus serial numbers and avoid stolen goods. Whether you want to build a concours quality restoration or simply put a good-looking, reliable British bike on the road, you will find plenty of helpful information here.

I have worked a lot on motorbikes over the years and after buying a 1971 oil in frame A65 Lightning I was looking for some good background reading.
This is book is excellent. Even though over the last 30 years I have learnt a lot about motorcycle mechanics, this one reviewed and filled in new areas of knowledge I didn't have. Each section takes you through major technical and practical aspects of rebuilding a BSA or Triumph from the sixties and seventies. I found it much more comprehensive then any repair or technical manual as it is written from the view of the restorer and how he would be viewing the parts as the bike is dismantled. Its a thoroughly enjoyable read almost like a thriller where it is hard to anticipate the next mystery problem and how it will be solved. Buy it! No Brit bike builder should be without this handbook.

Recommended reading for beginners and experts alike, this is a very readable book and I liked the style. More BSA than Triumph but this didn't matter to me as there is so much common ground. I liked the section on restoring the AMALs and the fule tanks.
