Okay, I knew a few bits and pieces but this book really helps you to sort out your site.
You don't need much previous knowledge, having said that, It would probably not do for the begginer.

I found this book good to a point, There is a complete section which covers half of the book just about blogging!
Blogging is simple, basics are only required but this book tells you how to Blog so much that you end up slapping it against your computer screen!

I have been ' messing ' with computers for years, and had come to some understanding about websites and how that they work. However, since I was looking to build my own I was casting around for more information and guidance on such subjects as servers and web hosting, whether to pay for your site or use free services. How to build in security, and perhaps how to set up a site to sell goods in normal use, such as clothes and shoes for people with particuar difficulties with locating what they need.

I also learned about the social networking sites for exchange of views, and the discussion as to whether this was more appropriate than setting up a specific site to deal with views. Particularly this is relevant to the use of mobile phone technology.

What makes an attractive site is made clear, as is what makes for a site that people will simply walk away from because it is too confusing.

I have written p.c. software, but here also is how to put the site together including such things as adding photographs and music.

This book was written in 2005 about using Nvu,for MAC and Windows, a what-you-see-is-what-you-get, website authoring program, which you can still safely download from Cnet and see its review, although it has been superseded by related KompZer, also free.
This book covers cascading style sheets[CSS]so it is still valid.
There is a 2009 update which I have not seen, but you can 'phone the publisher on 01963 44 20 30, or email sales@haynes.co.uk It is sensible and friendly in teaching the basics, quite unlike other technical books. Bits may be out of date but it is very good at giving an overall view.

A very interesting book that covers subjects such as, getting started, building bigger sites, building a blog, writing your own web pages and adding style to your documents. These subjects are written for the beginner and uses very easy to understand language. I would recommend this book.
