    5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book - Recommended!, 21 April 2001
By P. Sealy "typecastenterprises" (Bromley, Kent, England) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Build Your Own PC (Paperback)
This is a brilliant book for a novice computer builder. I am a Mac user who knows virtually nothing about PCs, so I thought it would be a nice idea to try to build one. This book starts from the very very basics, goes through in detail, every part, it's different kinds and ways that they all fit together. Once you have familirised yourself with all the parts the book then goes through a step by step build of three computers. I would highly recommend this book. The only down side is that all the pictures are black and white, and the quality of some of the pictures is very very poor. Well worth the Amazon price though. I read it from cover to cover, I have now bought all the parts and am ready to build. I will keep the book for reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars very useful..., 21 Sep 2003
    By A Customer
This review is from: Build Your Own PC (Paperback)
I had very little knowledge of PC building when I bought this book but I managed to build 2 full systems just by following the instructions. Both the AMD and Pentium walkthroughs are as accurate as they can be (not 100% because all PC componenets vary slightly). Also explains how to install an OS for those that have never done this before.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some knowledge can be more dangerous than none!!, 12 April 2001
    By A Customer
This review is from: Build Your Own PC (Paperback)
This book is very basic and makes a whole load of generalisations. The illustrations are of very poor quality, and you'd be as well off without most of them. Also the book requires a bit of updating. It does provide some useful bits of info, but when you actually go to build your PC, you find out that you've missed out on loads of info...my advice if you buy this book, buy components with good manuals!
