The game developed in these seven steps really s****. The graphics were created using Paintbrush. There's no sound. No animation.

This book is definitely not for people who want to build a real game--it would take more than seven steps, and they wouldn't be easy. If you want to make some crappy text game then go right ahead and get the book. The stuff here won't pass for anything except freeware. Luckily, that's noted at the beginning of the book, but once you buy it, it's too late.

Although well written, easy to understand and learn from, this book is now quite out of date. Techniques do not touch on DirectX, but will get the beginner writing 3 types of game; a text adventure, a graphical text adventure, and a clone of the Windows game "Downhill ski".

I enjoyed reading this, although it works in older version of Visual Basic, and some sections of code I altered as I worked. But it is a good book for beginners.
