Book Description

23 July 2007
Bugsy Malone, the 1976 musical film, is very loosely based on events in Chicago, Illinois in the Prohibition era, specifically, the exploits of gangsters like Al Capone as dramatized in cinema. The movie stars children as the gangsters and their molls, most notably a young Jodie Foster as Tallulah, and Scott Baio in the title role. The plot concerns the manufacture of a brand of custard, which is used first in cream-topped pies then later in 'splurge guns'. This songbook contains a background to the making of the film, over 40 photographs and a brief synopsis to the story. Contents:Fat Sam's Grand Slam; Bad Guys; My Name is Tallulah; So You Wanna Be a Boxer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only contains four songs ... 12 Feb 2010
By Big N
If you're hoping to stage Bugsy Malone then this ISN'T the book for you. It only contains four of the songs from the show - these being 'Fat Sam's Grand Slam,' 'My Name is Tallulah,' 'So You Wanna be a Boxer,' and 'Bad Guys.' They're also in easy-to-play but hard-to-sing keys, I'm afraid. The arrangements aren't great either - lots of 'fade out at end' ... groan! Lots of nice pictures though.

The only way to see the score for the songs 'Bugsy Malone,' 'Tomorrow,' 'I'm Feeling Fine,' 'Ordinary Fool,' 'Down and Out' and 'You Give a Little Love' is either illegally or by buying the rights I think. I've only ever found this miserable book wherever I've looked anyway!

Anyway, hope I've saved someone some pain! I really think the publishers should have to list the contents - the only clue that it's incomplete is the 'vocal selections' in the title ... but 4 songs out of 10? Really?

3.0 out of 5 stars bugsy malone score 19 Sep 2010
By clover
Great score with guitar notes added. Only disappointment is it doesn't contain ALL the songs from the play/movie...only a small selection which is why i've only given it 3 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars bugsy malone 5 Mar 2013

A very disappointing book. I should have read the reviews beforehand. Only 4 songs and only 2 of these are from the 7 "Principal Musical Numbers" listed at the front of the book. It doesn't even include the theme song! Why? This should be made clear in all advertising. I don't know why anyone would want to buy this book if they knew how little it contained.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stingy.... 11 Oct 2013

The quality of the book/printing/music is just fine. But only four songs out of a musical that's packed full of songs? That's just stingy! A vocal selection is usually around two thirds to three quarters of the song in the musical....this is only about a third. Disappointing.
