Product Description

Book Description

In 2005, Bugatti launched a car that has single-handedly redefined the notion of a 'supercar'. It was called the Veyron, was reputed to cost £5 million to build and yet only one million euros to buy. It quickly became the most talked about and indeed coveted car of all time. Written with the full co-operation of Bugatti.

Product Description

The Bugatti Veyron's statistics are mind-boggling: 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds; a top speed of 253 mph; tyres that cost £20,000 a set and an engine with ten radiators and four turbos; a launch control system taken from F1 and even windscreen wipers that create sizeable downforce ... all delivered complete with a high-end stereo system, luxurious leather seats and air-conditioning. It was a feat of engineering grandiosity that, in automotive terms, rivals the achievements of the great 19th Century industrialists.

In A Quest for Perfection, no. 1 bestselling author Martin Roach sets out to track down the mythical beast that is a Bugatti Veyron - and ultimately attempts to drive one. He traces the genesis of this remarkable machine through Bugatti's long and glorious early days and then through its more turbulent modern era. Travelling to the top secret Bugatti Research & Development workshop in Germany, touring the factory and chateau in France where these stunning cars are hand-built, interviewing famous engineers, super-rich owners and automotive presidents, as well as a host of other expert eye-witnesses to this unique car's many achievements, Roach ponders this mechanical whirlwind and in so doing has written a page-turning study of a modern masterpiece.

Bugatti Veyron: A Quest for Perfection discovers and unravels the enigma that is this remarkable car. Part-history, part-personal obsession, part-travelogue, part-humorous quest, altogether a book that will appeal to both fans of cars, and serious petrol-heads, Top Gear viewers as well as anyone who has ever raised an eyebrow as a shiny piece of metal on four wheels drives past in the street. For the first time, Bugatti has allowed access to the Veyron's Chief Engineer, designers, test drivers, archivists, the Bugatti factory, photographers and the President of Bugatti himself.

A very unique perspective, almost story of this amazing car - cleverly put together makes it an interesting, whitty and informative read to 'petrol heads' and 'non petrol heads' alike.
I found the book very difficult to put down, however was easy to pick up where I left off time and time again. Between reads I even found my wife having a little sneaky read who has as much interest in cars as a rabbit does in a wilted lettuce! often scaring me by shooting facts such as double clutches and bhp!
An awsome cover photo along with many interesting pictures throughout complimented the dialog giving this the worlds greatest car every bit of awe it deserves.
How clever to write about the Veyron in this way, a far comparison from the normal motoring 'bod' report style.
For an author that has had a life of 'people' books I congratulate him on this very different view....well done!

I was bought this book for my birthday and I could not put it down. I am what you would call a 'petrol head' -I love my cars (have done since I was about 8) but this book takes it beyond the normal run of the mill statistic led publications. It was incredibly inspirational following the author's journey. The insight into how such a fabulous car is created, marketed and manufactured has been written with a true warmth and obvious long term interest. That Martin Roach is a lucky lucky man. Buy it for all your petrol heads NOW!

Quite simply I love the Veyron, always have done - it's a piece of art more than anything and I fear this book may be the closest I'll ever get to owning anything baring the desirable Bugatti logo.

That aside, it's nice to see my passion is shared by others as well. The book is great as it delivers the authors personal feelings without becoming self-indulgent. The fact so many interviews are included with people crucial to the Veyrons creation is fantastic. The balance between the authors take on things and the concrete technical info provided by people like the chief engineer really shows the depth of the content. Not to mention it's also pretty damn funny and for those with limited attention spans like myself, the wealth of photos are great and only enhance this quick and easy read.

Well done!
