Product Description

Product Description

Eisner award-winning writer Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina) tackles Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight with "No Future for You." When a rogue debutant Slayer begins to use her power for evil, Giles is forced to recruit the rebellious Faith, who isn't exactly known for her good deeds. Giles offers Faith a clean slate if she can stop this snooty Slayer from wreaking total havoc - that is, if Buffy doesn't beat her to it. Georges Jeanty (The American Way) remains at the top of his game as series artist, and Whedon stays on as "Executive Producer" in this direct follow-up to Season Seven of the smash-hit TV series.

This comic collection brings together comics 6-10 of Buffy season 8. The first four "episodes" focus mostly on Faith, with a bit of Giles and the rest of the gang thrown in for good measure. The story follows a rogue slayer who is out to get Buffy, and Faith is sent by Giles to stop her.

A few people have argued that Faith didn't really need to redeem herself anymore, and that the whole episode felt a little out of place. But actually I think that it was much needed. It is a good introduction to the fact that there are some slayers using their powers for bad, and it also allows us to see where Faith and Buffy's relationship is now, as well as highlighting some of the tension between Buffy and Giles.

I was however surprised to see that Buffy and Faith seem to be rather back to square one again now - in season 7 I got the impression that Faith was much more at peace with the envy she once had for Buffy. They even got pretty close when Faith admitted she was jealous but that then when Buffy got kicked out of the house and Faith was leader for a short while, she realised how sad and lonely Buffy's life really is. Now in season 8 it feels much more like in season 3 when they were kicking each other about all the time and grappling over Angel, the mayor and so on. Or perhaps more like season 4, where Faith dropped in for a bit of casual "I-hate-you-because-everyone-loves-you" and some violence.

The final comic in this collection follows Buffy and Willow on a bit of a vision quest to find out more about the new evil they are facing. It was nice opportunity to find out what the characters are feeling at the moment, and I thought that some of the stuff that Willow opened up about was quite important and a very necessary continuation of the ramifications of bringing Buffy back from the dead in season 6.

Overall, good stuff. The characterisations are spot on, and there's some great humour. A must read for all Buffy fans.

Faith is not my favorite Buffy character, so its surprising that an entire book (minus the last chapter) is dedicated to her story after Season 7. Faith is a main character, but not as much as Willow and Xander abit to Buffy.

In the hands of Brian K. Vaughan Faith gets the limelight and shines it well. The story is fast paced, refreshing-with a sassy badguy (I mean girl!) that keeps the reader entertained despite Buffy not being at the wheel. The fact that the story jumps to Faith is actullay a nice break, and fleshes out some well deserved background pieces for Giles as well--which ultimately leaves Buffy feeling even more isolated--nice one!

One thing....Amy Winehouse?
