The seventh series of Buffy the Vampire Slayer begins with a mystery: someone is murdering teenage girls all over the world and something is trying hard to drive Spike mad. Buffy is considerably more cheerful in these episodes than we have seen her during the previous year as she trains Dawn and gets a job as student counsellor at the newly rebuilt Sunnydale High. Willow is recovering from the magical addiction which almost led her to destroy the world, but all is not yet well with her, or with Anya, who has returned to being a Vengeance demon in "Same Time, Same Place" and "Selfless", and both women are haunted by their decisions.
Haunting of a different kind comes in the excellent "Conversations with Dead People" (one of the show's most terrifying episodes ever) where a mysterious song is making Spike kill again in spite of his soul and his chip. Giles turns up in "Bring on the Night" and Buffy has to fight one of the deadliest vampires of her career in "Showtime". In "Potential" Dawn faces a fundamental reassessment of her purpose in life. This is a spectacular start to Buffy's last year as the consequences of earlier actions unfold in a string of surprises and shocks punctuated as always by some of the funniest lines on television. --Roz Kaveney

At the beginning of the series, Buffy and Dawn return to Sunnydale High. In the newly furnished school there still lies many vampires and demons to slay, and who else does Buffy find? Spike! He’s back with a new haircut and with a soul. But will he be good or bad in this series? Will he and Buffy get back together? The slayer’s sister Dawn has grown up and lost the attitude in this final season. Anya is back and her vengeance demon side is causing dangerous havoc in Sunnydale. So much that Buffy questions if she should kill her. Meanwhile, Giles takes Willow back with him to England for rehabilitation in his witch coven.
Joss Whedon has successfully developed The Scoobies and now he dedicates Season 7 to develop The Scrapies. Andrew and Jonathan return from Mexico and we even see a glimpse of the nasty Warren. Spike has a vision of the worst evil Sunnydale has ever seen. It is a creature that is able to morph into many characters, including Drusilla, the Mayor and Glory. A bomb in England leaves Sunnydale in a mid-season suspense. The Watchers Council is destroyed and Giles is certain that something terrible has started … but what could it be? How will Buffy end? The only way to understand the final finale is to follow the entwined and sinister path in Season 7 Part 1.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer has probably surpassed many people's expectations as TV series - despite having a small audience, the show and its stars have become modern pop culture icons. Last year they grew up, dealt with sex, death and addicition. As this season starts, all the characters must come to terms with their demons.
Buffy is now training Dawn, and gets a job as a student counsellor; Xander gets all professional and successful; Willow learns to cope with her power; Anya struggles to get into the vengeance game again; and Spike is insane in the basement.
Season Seven is the shows most consistently entertaining season since Season Three. The re-building of Sunnydale High, the return of the Hellmouth and the re-introduction of standalone stories gives it a back to basics feel. This is quick-witted stuff, never failing to be dramatic or emotional, but always keeping the cheeky humour. The first 11 episodes set up what will become the seasons main story arc, involving the re-opening of the Hellmouth. There are some dark hints, building to pretty horrific clues, about what exactly the Scooby gang will be facing at the end of the season.
There isn't a single episode in this collection that I would call less than "very good". The show has wavered in the past, but here, Buffy's on top form. Single best episode from this collection? Possibly Selfless - Buffy and Anya come to blows, with Anya being a murdering demon and all.

I recently bought the 1st part of series 7 on video. On the whole this is fantastic although it is probably overall my least favourite series of BTVS. HOWEVER! I have an episode missing... it skips straight from 'Bring on the Night' to 'Potential', missing out 'Showtime'. Is my version a one-off? Be careful when you buy and make sure you check before handing over any money!

Please note that this is not a review about the quality of the actual episodes (as they are better than ever), I bought this box set today (14/07/03) and have just gotten to the last episode which is supposed to be "Showtime", however it seems that someone has fudded up here because that episode is completely missing and as a result the next episode "potential" is now in its place (Potential should be on the next box set). As a result of this there is a gaping plot hole that is ruined by the intro to "potential" which shows how "Showtime" ends as well as the introduction of more S.I.T.s to the show and the rescue of Spike! I hope it's only the box set I have but it seems someone has messed up big time! (The episodes are still cool though)

All of the buffys have been great and this season is no exception. It's brilliant and enjoyable for many different types of people. I love it!!

sadly it is the end of buffy, but at least it goes out with a bang (well an explosion) this is by far one of the best series and definately the best series ending. Read more

Missing Episode
i love this season of buffy and the box set is brill however i was sevearly annoyed to find that the last episode SHOWTIME was missing and the episode POTENTIAL was in its place. Read more
