Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a third-person action/adventure game based on the international hit television series. Players take on the role of Buffy Summers, a typical high school student by day and a fierce destroyer of the undead by night. Buffy the Vampire Slayer combines fighting, action, drama, humor, exploration and puzzle solving in a complex interactive 3D environment.

Eons ago powerful demons walked the earth. Over the ages these ancient demons lost their control over society and failed to keep up with the changing times. The Old Ones, as they were known, were forced to retreat to the depths of Hell, while mortal man reigned the world. Now, back for revenge, the Old Ones are trying to take over the earth by creating a bridge between hell and earth, and leading an army of demons into the living world. For this terrible plan to succeed, the Old Ones require the dark powers of the Master, a 600 year old vampire with expertise in opening dimensional portals.

Enter Buffy Summers, a 17-year-old high school student who must balance adolescent growing pains with the responsibility of being the "Chosen One" to rid vampires and other demonic creatures that threaten the world's existence. It's up to Buffy to save the world from vampires and demons and to save the human race from being "drained" from this devilish plan

4.0 out of 5 stars Buffy the Tomb Raider 19 Sep 2002
Format:Video Game
If you're a fan of the Buffy television show, you will love this game. it features all the original cast members voices, except Buffy's (although her stand in does a very good job) and locations from the show (the school, the Bronze, Angel's mansion, etc.). It is set during the shows third season and has a great story involving the return of the Master. The graphics are fairly good, especially the animations on Buffy herself. The gameplay starts off well, but later descends into a Tomb Raider clone (find switch, kill bad guys, do precision jumps etc.). This does not mean this is a poor game, it's just a shame a bit more imagination couldn't have gone towards the level layout.
The one area this game really does excel is in the combat. At close quarters, Buffy can punch, kick and use combos with the best of them. The combat is very intuitive and it's obvious a lot of thought has been put into the controls.
Overall, if you're a fan of the show, get this. It's worth the asking price just to beat up Spike. It's just a shame it couldn't have been a more original title.

5.0 out of 5 stars the most fun I've ever had with my consoles 21 Jan 2003
Format:Video Game
I love this game. Taking off vampires heads with a shovel in glorious slo-mo slayer style is soooo satisfying. The original actor's voices and the amazing Buffy-voice-impression and the great cheesy lines all add immeasurably to the laughs and the atmosphere, and learning to pull off Buffy's impressive and beautifully animated moves is a delight (and I'm very easily bored by combat games).
The interaction with the environment and weapons is great fun too - you can smash furniture to make stakes, and the more you hit demons with objects such as a trusty sledgehammer (oh joy!) the more it disintegrates, into a spear, then a stake, then splinters to pieces. You can kick and throw vampires into sunlight, oncoming trains, explosives, boiling lava and handy pointy objects...staking vamps looks as good as it should, and you can throw missiles, shoot crossbow bolts, the Supersoaker full of holy water is a great touch, and there are also many imaginative ways in which to die.
I was a little worried by reviews that complained about a big difficulty hump in the middle of the game, especially as I just don't have the patience to devote the necessary effort to learning a game that's too frustrating. Plus I'm lazy. Happily I was pleasantly surprised, and playing a few hours here and there the household is still entertained weeks later and we haven't finished yet. Halo, though beautiful and exciting, bored us all eventually with its repetition and difficulty, but I found Buffy to be nicely paced and has enough variety (new weapons and moves and adversaries) to keep me interested. Perhaps that's my stunted attention span talking.

Fantastic......
Having waited for this release like what seems forever I was beggining to think it would not live up to expectations - but I was wrong. The game starts with the opening sequence from an episode of Buffy & when you start playing - you belive you are in an episode of Buffy. You are "The Slayer".
The graphics are outstanding. Spike, Buffy, Giles...they are all there in incredible detail along with the Bronze, the Library and other recognisable locations. The actors provide the voices of the characters which makes it even more authenic. The exception being Sarah Michelle Gellar but the stand in does an excellent job. Sometimes the likeness is uncanny.
The graphics, sound, gameplay..everything about this game is top draw. A definate 9/10. If you have an XBOX you must get Buffy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Anyone for stake? 2 Oct 2002
Format:Video Game
Buffy/Angel fans will instantly go nuts for this game, the familiar locations, real actor voices (except Buffy - whats up with that SMG? too busy/rich to tape a bit of dialogue?? - soundalike is v.good though, you soon don't notice), and corking animation alone will ensure they are kept well happy.
For everyone else its still a great way to blow a few evenings.
Fight moves etc are fabulous - hoofing a vamp round the chops to send him spinning into a wall spike and decap'ing a zombie with a spinning backfist are just some of the gloriously fun ways to progress the Buffster. Gameplay is good, plenty of jump/climb/shimmy opportunities but it is squarely focused on the "kick-the-crap-out-of-them" elements rather than ingenious puzzles etc.. Liked the Camera Control too, as you can easily rotate round to check out jumps etc.

True to the series, our game Buffy wise-cracks her way through the demon-slaughter which will keep fans of the series grinning, might get a bit annoying for others, though!
No major downsides - alright, the no mid-game save whinge pops up again but it's not the end of the world, there's enough way-points to mean you don't have to retrace too many steps if you end up as being the Undead's evening tipple.
The crossbow sniper mode targeting is difficult too, but hey, forget about it and get stuck in with your other tools of the trade.
In all, a must for all Buffy fans, although the hardcore element will no doubt get shirty over the odd timing of the storyline(somewhere between seasons 1 & 2 )and the lack of SMG true voice-over - and a good buy for non-Buffy addicts.
Follow-up would be good, has to be lots of opportunities for extra character involvement - think about it, Buffy/Willow/Angel/Spike in a 4-way, 'Halo'esque' deathmatch...bring it on!
