5.0 out of 5 stars Many forget the begining was in 92 not 97! 5 April 2009
Format:DVD
The movie that tanked purely due to the poor marketing. Buffy the vampire slayer had the traditional ideas some which didnt carry over into the series 5 years later like the vamps that can fly and have big weird ears. Instead these were swapped out for vampires who have odd klingon bumpies and snappy dialogue and cool moves, fair trade. Kristy Swanson in my opinion played a hotter Buffy personally I would have gone for someone who looked like her not Sarah Michelle Gellar!!! She still did a fine job in the series. I would recommend this film to any buffy fan as it fits into the story nicely with her back story of why she was transfered to Sunnydale High. Look out for David Arquette, Ben Affleck (blink and you will miss him) and Hilary Swank. Great film.

3.0 out of 5 stars not quite Buffy 26 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Format:DVD
althought not as good as the series with Sarah Michelle Geller it is still quite good. full of comic moments and pull on the heart strings type stuff too, so good all round. The best thing is of course is that it tells the beginning of the whole deal for Buffy, something which, in my opinion, is a bit sketchy in the series so a good watch just for that. But is also quite funny, especially the vamps (weird looking with huge ears!!)
Watch it as a background to the series, and of course if you are a major fan you have to know how it all started.
Watch out for the longest death scene of a vamp ever (they don't turn to dust in the film) and the stars in small parts, see if you can get them all!

4.0 out of 5 stars And now for something completely different... 4 Sep 2006
Format:DVD
People argue that this movie is a lot different to the series. What you have to remember is this movie is what started it off, and maybe the people rating it are rating it based on it's down sides and differences are-compared to the series.

Personally, I think this is a feel good movie thats lots of fun and I prefer this (however rubbish this may sound to Slayer series' fans) to the TV series. So what if Sarah Michelle Gellar has more attitude and kicks more ass! At the end of the day, this movie is funny and full of valley girl stupidity. Buffy in the movie and Buffy in the series are completely different. The series is accompanied by some rockier music, and more of a gothic vampy feel, which is probably why it's preffered by the hardcore vampire fanatics.
