I have two of these and they are worth every penny
a) They simply work as they should without pain or problems
b) I had a ups failure which caused power loss to one of these and caused erroneous writing to the disks - the buffalo worked it all out and corrected for the write erros faultlessly - demonstrating the recovery and correction capabilities of the device.
c) I find this model is a professional grade product unlike many in this price bracket or cheaper (I have a cheaper one as well) - i suggest terrastation III works perfectly for small business use - fully configurable and reliable ...
d) Replication between two of this devices works a charm - so for proection against failure of the buffalo hardware itself (as opposed to disk failure) it mirrors from on to the other without adding any network traffic, through using the second network ports.
I am very pleased with the tersation III devices, and using raid on each combined with a mirroring pair (on separate ups's) really does provide proection against dataloss, and the configurable trashboxes also protects against accidential user errors !

Amazon Verified Purchase
A bit pricey, maybe, but it does the job of high volume storage superbly with plenty of space for back-up using the RAID options. The unit operates quietly and is quite small, given the amount of storage it can accommodate. It also works reasonably quickly, although the speed of wireless networks in particular is likely to be limited by the capability of the wireless hub, switch or laptop / PC Etc.
My only quibble is that the automatic power-down feature which is supposed to operate when network connections are closed only seems to work with a wired connection. I have a wireless laptop but the TeraStation will not 'wake up' when the laptop is switched on unless the wired PC is already on. There is a simple switch on the back of the unit which overcomes the problem but it means the unit won't power down automatically when not in use.
