I owned the old version of this in a 250GB but had filled it up so was pleasantly suprised to see that they had updated the look of the product, looks like my PS3 however that really wasn't that important, the thing which grabbed me was the power usage, 75% less than a standard drive they use some new fangled technology which allows the drive to go into a park mode when not searching for information which means it is not running burning my cash. Also pleased to see that they included free back up software and encryption to give an element off added value. From a technical point of view the transfer rates are excellent, I transfered the contents of my Laptops hardrive 80GB in under an hour using a standard USB cable from the box. Really please I stuck with Buffalo.

I have never used or owned an external hard drive before this unit.
I purchased it on the basis that it was very well priced and that it had 7 great reviews and one poor review. (so I did the maths and decided to buy...)
This item came well packaged, the instructions and quick start were easy to read and very clear, the unit was up and running within 2 minutes of me opening the box and the files transferred over effortlessly.
The unit has a slight whir when on and when transferring files but nothing that would disturb what you are working on.
All in all I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone!!!

It works very well out of the box - just plug and play via the USB port. But it's formatted to FAT32. This means the maximum size of any file you can write to it is 4GB. If you want to write typical video files to it, or back up your other drives, format it to NTFS first.

short lived
Moved all the contents of my laptop's hard drive after about six months it became extremely slow in loading and it is NOT quiet but worked fine for those six months.
