I replaced a Cisco X2000 with this router. It is fast, very easy to manage, and it has a fabulous user interface. I love the fact that it's based on dd-wrt. You can do practically anything with it. Very flexible. If you're a geek and you want complete and total control, this is the router for you. But if you're a normal person who just wants a high performance router, you don't have to get under the hood at all. It's really easy to use.

I had been struggling with poor coverage through the house since I switched to fibre service from my ISP and so had to stop using the combined modem/router that I had before . The route supplied by the ISP was a bit feeble and because of where the BT line terminates had to be right at one end of the house. This led to poor coverage at the other end. I messed about a bit with wireless extenders and a secondary router via a data-over-power connection but none of them really worked well. So I did a bit of research into routers with particularly good wireless coverage and came up with this one from Buffalo. It was a bit more expensive than other routers on the market but if it solved my coverage problems it would be worth the extra money. And so it has worked out. It worked straight out of the box, was easy to configure and now I have no blind spots. The wireless extender and the secondary router are now gathering dust. I still use the data over power connector but that's dedicated to my Sky+ box now.

Very good strength to the signal. It does keep falling over as the base does not seem to fit very well to the unit.

Ok, the positive first - this router has fantastic range and is really fast. It comes with "drt-ww" firmware (google for more details), so is incredibly configurable, and also comes with a CD which enables you to install a more simple user friendly firmware. It handles different wifi standards flawlessly and seems really stable.

Now the problems - it is terribly designed. Firstly, there is no getting away from the fact that it is ugly, and I mean really unpleasant to look at. The stand that comes with it required a lot of fettling to attach securely - it screws into the case of the router - it would be helpful if they put a screw hole in routers case to accommodate said screw. Even with the stand attached, and more than three ethernet cables is enough to pull the router over. One of the three antennas on mine is floppy, in other words it simply falls over - it won't stay put.

Personally, I'd only buy it if you have a cupboard to put it in so you don't have to look at it, luckily I do.

Pain in the neck to set up (if you want to use as a router). Wireless signal is too good.

Extended WiFi range is effective, I could not use my iPad all over the house with a previous modem/router. Set-up not straightforward. Some may not realize it needs a separate modem (I used my existing one with WiFi turned off).
