Reviews

Second series of the classic 1970s drama, starring Adam Faith as petty crook Ron 'Budgie' Bird. Recently released from prison, Budgie soon finds himself embroiled in more petty scams and get rich quick schemes, none of which seem to end in success, and all of which seem to get Budgie in trouble with the police, and with his dodgy underworld boss, Charlie Endell (Iain Cuthbertson). Episodes are: 'Dreaming of Thee'; 'And the Lord Taketh Away'; 'Louie the Ring is Dead and Buried in Kensal Green Cemetery'; 'The Jump-Up Boys'; 'Our Story So Far'; 'Do Me a Favour'; 'Glory of Fulham'; '24,000 Ball Point Pens'; 'King For a Day'; 'The Outside Man'; 'The Man Outside'; 'Brief Encounter'; and 'Run Rabbit, Run Rabbit, Run, Run, Run'.

Like Minder, Fools & Horses and Just Good Friends? - Yes - then watch Budgie because this series must have provided the raw material for later TV hits such as these.

Watching Budgie series 1 & 2 again feels weird after all this time - but it was well worth the wait and it's just as good as I remember it. Adam Faith was truly great in this part. If Adam hadn't had a near fatal car accident after filming series 2 then others would have doubtless followed.

I used to love this series when it first appeared and although time has made some of the acting appear a bit wooden by today's standards it is a great delight to watch it again. Good old fashioned TV comedy drama.

I watched the "Budgie" series in the early 70s as a teenager and thanks to Amazon being able to get hold of just anything, I typed in the title and found that the series was available on DVD. I ordered it and watching it took me back to those good old days of being a teenager again. The characters are just as I remembered them - some shots are a bit slow for today's standards but it is nonetheless "memory lane" and entertaining to watch. Budgie's cockney and Charlie Endell's super glaswegian accent are brilliant.

I loved this the first time around, the first episode in b/w found it hard going, or so i thought.. have just got back into it & completed the box set, I loved it, brought back so many memories. The fashion, the lingo that was used in the 60s. Wish there was more.
