About Burma:

Burma is becoming increasingly geared for tourists and this is pushing prices up.

Right now however, it is still very much an un-jaded destination with untouched scenery and welcoming local people. With a little knowledge, you can avoid the tourist traps and have a great adventure both safely and cheaply.

There are some "must-sees" and some rarely seen gems. We include a wide selection of both so you can make your own path.

In Depth Destination Guides Included:

Inle Lake
Pyin oo Lwin

Essential Information for Minor Destinations:

Ngpali Beach

And others.

2.0 out of 5 stars Incomplete, too expensive and rarely useful, but... 21 Mar 2014

If you're looking for cheap accommodations this guidebook might help you although it's already out of date. On their website the authors (or copiers, because a lot! of information has been copied and pasted directly from wikitravel.) promote this book in a very positive way and they dare to call themselves serious competition for lonely planet e.o. I disagree with this, as I said a lot of content is copied, incomplete or just handled to easily by the authors. For example, at some of the 'eating' sections the authors just let you go with "because there's too many restaurants to try we cannot give you any recommendations, just go out and try yourself" or something in this sense.
A guidebook is a book that should be there when you can't or don't want to find things by yourself and not let you down when you try to find for example a restaurant. If this book would have been free I would have been more positive but almost $8 for an incomplete and copied book is just a big rip off in my opinion. The few times that we found the book useful, it was better then the planet and that was good, but they should just be honest about what they sell so that people know what to expect when paying money for something.

Most background info pulled from Wikipedia. Get the same info and better maps from lonely planet. Didn't really see the value.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good for budget traveler right now 10 Dec 2013

I used this guidebook for a week in Yangon and Bagan. It is very much up-to-date, something the other guidebooks can't match at this moment. It's also contains some excellent research by some travelers who were just there. Know that this guide is a low-budget one (it says so in the name!) so reading it will help you find the cheap places. It's also very oriented towards getting a meaningful, local experience, pointing out local eateries and explaining Burmese food. I hope the authors will keep this updated in the coming years, it seems they have a genuine love for the country.
5.0 out of 5 stars Up-to-date and very informative 30 Nov 2013

I gave it 5 stars simply because there is no full-length book as up-to-date. I would be nice if there were a paperback available, as it is available only in digital, which could be a problem if one's smart phone or tablet failed. But that is a subsidiary issue to the book's content.

Cheers and happy trails!
5.0 out of 5 stars If you are planning a trip to Myanmar, you need this book 10 July 2013

Hell, even if you are not planning a trip to Myanmar, you should buy this book and be inspired to go. Every thing imaginable you would need is in here. I also loved reading first hand experiences. It makes it seem more "real" than a typical guide book. You get the "well if they could do can I!" feeling.
