useful introduction 20 Oct 2007
I used this text as the foundation for my knowledge during my own A-Level Buddhism. Now I am planning to use it myself for my own A-Level students. Cush uses straightfoward language and provides a good insight to the key events, teachings and denominations of Buddhism. Each of the key sections develops your understanding of a very philosophical tradition and she also brings in the more modern strands of Buddhism e.g. FWBO. This text is ideal for anyone curious about Buddhism, those studying it at A-Level or as an introduction for degree level. There are many other texts around that compliment this by giving more detail but should be read AFTER this or some concepts seem too abstract.

Well worth reading!

For any AS/A level Religious Studies Student this is an essential and whatever you pay for it, it will be worth every penny. Thank you Denise Cush, your book in invaluable. It's well structured and set out, easy to find information on any paticular aspect of Buddhism. For WJEC students, this book is on the 'Recommended Reading List' and so is a must-read.

This book provides a reasonable basic introduction, perhaps for students prior to the start of their 'A' level course. It does however contain some errors, and too many oversimplifications to be a useful course text, and needs to be approached with caution. Best used as a primer before moving onto more substantial texts.
