Buddhism is one of the oldest religions in the world; having begun well over 2,000 years ago. The wisdom and philosophy on which the religion is based continue to be relevant and practical today.

Following the teachings of Buddhist philosophy is a wonderful way to find peace and happiness in your life. Many are drawn to the religion because it is proven to be an excellent way to achieve inner peace and just generally live a healthier and more fulfilling life.

The ultimate goal of a Buddhist is to achieve a state known as Nirvana. This is a state of complete inner peace and an elimination of all suffering. The major sources of suffering according to the Buddha’s teachings are ignorance and de-sire. Through various techniques like meditation and yoga, Buddhists attempt to achieve this state. In fact, the term “Buddha” actually means awakened or en-lightened one. It is the title used for those who have achieved nirvana. This means anyone can become a Buddha in theory.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good read regardless of your religion 22 May 2014

I like reading and discovering about different religions and beliefs. I do not take sides but I just find it fascinating and very worth my while, especially if I’m able to pick some of the qualities that I deem would help me become a better person. This book was very helpful to me as I was introduced briefly into the world of Buddhism. I really like the meditation part of it and I have been doing some yoga recently. I definitely recommend this book as an introduction if you are not familiar with the four noble truths.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a good book, and is generally a very reliable introduction to Buddhism 26 May 2014

Despite the somewhat simplistic title, this is a very interesting book for someone who knows next to nothing about Buddhism. I feel like she covered quite a bit of ground and really explained the various terms and concepts associated with the religion. The answer of the most of the question I was looking I found in this book. I highly recommend this book for beginners in Buddhism.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Educational 28 May 2014

I got this book because I'm just about to see Angkor Wat, Cambodia, next week. In addition to that, in a few months, I'll be visiting Japan. I'm aware that Buddhism is the majority's religion in these two countries; hence, I want to have knowledge on this to make me appreciate their culture even more. Even though I have tackled Buddhism in my history class decades ago, I'm glad that this served as a refresher course. I found it interesting to read about the Eightfold Path, Karma, Nirvana, and meditation (all of which are keys to having a peaceful life, in my opinion), and I'm happy because unlike my educational years, I can finally understand it at present. Good read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Are you wondering? 20 May 2014

I've always been intrigued by Buddhism but all the books I picked up were too intimidating. I just wanted a quick overview to let me know if it was something I would be interested in pursuing. This book was just what I was looking for. It gave me just the right amount of information. A little history and the basics of the religion. A great beginners guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars For those looking to begin this practice 2 Jun 2014
By Trevor Simone - Published on Amazon.com

This book is excellent for those who are interesting in adding the practices of one of he oldest religions into their daily routine. It starts with a brief biography about the life of Buddha and it continues with the fundamental teachings of this religion and finally it talks about the practice and benefits of meditation and how to perform It correctly.
