Product Description

Yoga is the perfect exercise for your birth preparation as it helps strengthen the body, enhances flexibility and calms the mind. Inspired by the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli, Nicole Croft, author of the Good Birth Companion, has designed the sequences in this DVD to emphasise the breath, gravity and spinal alignment, all of which are essential for a comfortable pregnancy and positive labour. 'Buddhabellies - Yoga for Pregnancy DVD' will help you to feel confident, relaxed and prepared during birth and is a wonderful opportunity for you to practice with an experienced teacher in the comfort of your own home.

This DVD offers practice workouts of varying lengths, all of which emphasise postural alignment and flexibility, strengthening the body's fitness in preparation for labour. Regular yoga practice is proven to quiet the mind and improve agility and strength, making it the perfect way to prepare for birth. The DVD is suited to all stages of pregnancy beyond 14 weeks and begins with an empowering introductory sequence covering the importance of being active during birth.

Nicole Croft is a practicing doula, Active Birth Centre associate and qualified yoga for pregnancy teacher with over 12 years of experience. She is the author of the Good Birth Companion, published in 2011 by Vermilion, and the director of BuddhaBellies, an antenatal and postnatal centre in Oxfordshire that runs classes, workshops and a website to prepare mothers for birth and beyond. She lives with her husband and young family near Oxford. Their three children were all born in very different ways; at home, in water and by caesarean.

Review

Inspired by Vanda Scaravelli, Nicole offers a wonderful introduction to Yoga for Pregnancy with three guided sequences. These are of varying lengths and adapted to suit different stages of pregnancy from 14 weeks to full term. Beautifully filmed, Nicole elegantly demonstrates the postures while 6 months pregnant, with clear background instructions. The timing is very good and one really gets the feel of the flow of the asanas guided and facilitated by the all important breath. The DVD aims to empower and help mums to be at all stages of pregnancy, offering a simple to follow guide which can easily and safely be used at home. Excellent. --Yoga and Health Magazine

Buddha Bellies is a nurturing, informative and relaxing pregnancy yoga DVD. It is also, in my view, a crucial step towards achieving an active birth. I did the intermediate session (a handy 45 mins) every day for the last six weeks of my pregnancy and I m sure it was a major component in my achieving the birth I wanted - in water, without any medical intervention. I think Nicole is that rare thing in pregnancy yoga - someone who really knows her stuff but who wears her knowledge lightly, always putting the postures first. I can t recommend this DVD more highly. --Annie Mills

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring - a must buy for your pregnancy 25 Oct 2007
Format:DVD
I have been using this dvd for the last 3 months of my pregnancy but wish I had found it before ... The yoga is simple enough for the beginner, which I was, but because there are three different sessions it never gets boring. It also really helped with my back pain. I cannot recommend this highly enough - I'll be buying it for all my pregnant friends. A truly inspirational dvd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Shiva Rea... 6 Oct 2007
Format:DVD
Having been nauseated by the last yoga video i bought, i was glad to find Nicole Croft's DVD during my latest pregnancy. She was a godsend during my last few months when i practiced the intermediate session several times per week. The sessions are well shot and executed and the voiceover is calm and relaxing, guiding you through the poses at a comfortable pace. I really felt physically in control of my contractions when it came to the birth in part due to the confidence that my yoga preparations had given me, of which this DVD played a large part. I bought 2 more copies for friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good DVD but with important caveat! 6 April 2008
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I was looking for a pregnancy yoga dvd, liked the reviews and ordered this one. The presentation is professional, a little straight perhaps, clean, simple and the voice over clearly explains the various moves - I only ever did the very first workout (of three available) as I had not done yoga before. **That is very important!!** After doing the workout once, I began to get discomfort in the front of my pelvis - yes, the start of SPD (you ladies know what I mean). It turns out that not only does pregnancy make it easier to bend where you want to, it also softens up your ligaments - and as I was NEW to yoga, I really shouldn't have done this without a qualified teacher (according to the physio who has given me alternative exercises). If you are normally quite flexible but haven't done yoga before, please go to a good local class and if all is well, THEN buy a DVD - this one is very good - once you're fine. Ideally, do yoga before you're pregnant... although if you're like me that warning is a bit late ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Yoga for Pregnancy: Nicole Croft 18 Oct 2007
Format:DVD
Nicole's yoga DVD has been an indispensable part of my pregnancy, alongside her weekly classes. The DVD allows you to choose between 3 practice session ranging in duration and ability.
Following Nicole's clear and concise instruction allows you to follow a practice session with ease whilst experiencing an enhanced attunement with one's ever changing body and mind throughout this life changing time.
The filming assists you in seeing postures clearly with an additional image in the corner of the screen that highlights specific areas of focus or alternatives to the main posture shown.
I would highly recommend this DVD to any woman in pregnancy. I can only hope that there is a post natal DVD in the pipeline!

I disagree with the reviewer who says this dvd is dull. I have liked it specifically because of its simplicity. There is no music, but this is great because there is no chance of getting bored of new age music on a loop and I have been able to do the yoga to either whatever soundtrack i choose or to no music at all so that i can focus on my breathing which i found a useful tool during contractions in my previous two labours. The yoga, as you would expect of pregnancy yoga, is relatively gentle (though i find session 3 a proper workout) but it definately helps. Even though i only manage a session once, maybe twice a week, i can feel my back strengthened and always sleep amazingly well afterwards. This is my 3rd pregnancy and so I have tried other yoga dvd's but think that this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. I would really recommend this dvd and have been telling my pregnant friends to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected 11 Mar 2008
Format:DVD
The truth is, whenever I've tried yoga in the past, I've never really liked it. I've always wanted to like it, but never did. This is the first yoga class (both DVD and at the gym) that I've liked! It is very relaxed, helps me with my breathing, and makes visualizing what's happenning to my body easy.
I definitely recommend this DVD! I'm in my 18th week, was able to do all the positions in the beginner 30 minute session without difficulty.

5.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this pregnancy yoga practice 22 Feb 2009
Format:DVD
As a yoga teacher myself, I felt a little stuck with my regular practice when I got pregnant. I hadn't trained specifically in pregnancy yoga and was unable to get to a specialist teacher to check which postures were beneficial. I bought this DVD and worked through all 3 sequences depending on my mood and energy levels. Yoga should be simple, taking us back to the essence of the breath, and being present in our practice at all times. This DVD certainly achieves that. If you want a good exercise workout, go for a brisk walk. If you want to strectch your body, whilst reconnecting with some inner peace, calm and clarity in the run up to having a baby, get this DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Real yoga for yogis 21 Nov 2008
Format:DVD
Having practiced Iyengar Yoga for 6 years I was really keen to continue with my practice throughout pregnancy. I've been to pregnancy classes, the social aspect of which is lovely, but always leave feeling disappointed that the practice focussed on being 'easy' rather than strengthening the body (and thus mind). A friend gave me this DVD and I have to say it is brilliant. No doubt when I'm further along the intermediate and beginners sessions will have their appeal, but for anyone who is used to practicing Iyengar or other postural forms of Yoga I cannot recommend this video highly enough!
