There simply isn't anything else out there like this - most probably because there is such a gaping hole in the industry for female Asian artists who rap and create beats for mainstream western ears.

'Bucky done gun' is fresh and instantly appealing. At times lucid, at times abrasive but always toe-tappingly rhythmic- you can't help to like this track.

Was that it? Quite why Mya is being hailed as a major talent escapes me after hearing this. A hybrid of Missy Elliott, dancehall reggae and the Streets but with none of the excitement of any of them. I was really looking forward to this, but that was anticipation wasted.

A major disappointment after all the hype that's been pointed her way, not one of the many remixes on offer could lift this to the point of interesting. It's been released in five different formats, I presume in a desperate attempt to get all her friends to buy a copy of each to push into the lower reaches of the charts.

For anyone who has ever heard M.I.A., they know that she is brilliant and her music is probably some of the most infectious stuff out there. "Bucky Done Gun" is no exception, with its catchy horn riff and Maya's great lyrics. And all of the remixes on here are great also, especially the DaVinChe Remix. The instrumental and acapella are nice to have as a fan, too. Great maxi single.

M.I.A. continues her overtake of the musical world with the second disc of BUCKY DONE GUN, a track with equal parts toughness and raw sexuality. DJ Marlboro brings some of the Brazillian funk carioca to his mix, throwing in some digital skank into the mix. YLS, on the other hand, strips the track down to its percussive bass, with a few stabs of instruments here and there, while DaVinChe speeds up the lyrics slightly and overlays some dramatic horns and strings that don't quite work with the track. Good overall, but not mind-blowing.
