Product Description

From the Inside Flap

‘Buchan Claik’ combines the writing talents of two of Aberdeenshire’s best-known authors, ex-fisherman Peter Buchan and ex-farmworker David Toulmin, to produce a splendid hoard of words, sayings, proverbs, rhymes and reminiscences from the North-East of Scotland, particularly the Buchan area, where they both lived and worked for most of their lives.
Following the publication of the first edition of this book in 1989 they continued to collect material, making notes as it came to mind and this second edition, revised and updated, provides an extra forty pages of new information.
Although ‘Buchan Claik’ is presented alphabetically, it is more than just a dictionary. These men had too much information on tap; too many stories up their sleeves; too many years discussing the land and the sea to be muzzled by the constraints a dictionary would apply. Given a free rein, they compiled a book which will become a safe-deposit for an important part of our heritage. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Buchan Claik 20 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
An invaluable guide in assisting those authors and poets writing in the 'Buchan'/Doric dialect. Also a highly amusing read. A 'quinie' by birth, it certainly resurrected childhood memories and I found great enjoyment in sampling its uniquely Aberdeenshire humour. I firmly recommend it to any other exiles.
