Review

'A highly entertaining read. Strohmeyer's literary main squeeze is Bubbles Yablonsky, Pennsylvania hairdresser and occasional crime reporter, a gal with a talent for indescructible beehive coiffures and getting into trouble' (Midweek )

'Bubbles has a life of her own. Strohmeyer...reaches down into the core of the character and the community' (Booknews )

'In her second novel featuring high-energy beautician/rookie reporter, Bubbles Yablonsky, Strohmeyer successfully navigates the fine line between humorous stereotype and sympathetic amateur investigator...Bubbles goes undercover frantically (and hilariously) shifting between her role as a sexy reporter and her cover as an Amish widow...delightful' (Publishers Weekly )

'Instead of tickling gently, Bubbles smacks you with humor as broad as a whoopee pie in the kisser' (Kirkus Reviews ) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Publisher

Praise for Sarah Strohmeyer's debut novel, BUBBLES UNBOUND:
‘Hop in the Camaro and buckle up: Bubbles is behind the wheel, and a wild ride awaits’ Publishers Weekly

‘A wonderfully energising and skilful page-turner of a book. Strohmeyer will go far. We can’t have too much of this Bubbles of hers, this irresistible, lycra wearing, oddly wise hairdresser/detective’ Fay Weldon

‘Think Erin Brockovich meets Helen from Big Brother and you’ve got Bubbles Yablonksy... Very good’ Mirror

‘Sarah Strohmeyer’s sparkling debut is a breezy and funny mystery with a heroine who dresses like a Barbie doll and kicks ass like a marine. Bubbles is a wonderful creation’ Sparkle Hayter

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun second Bubbles adventure 5 May 2003
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is the second novel starring the irrepressible Bubbles Yablonksy - hairdresser & aspiring journalist.
Bubbles’ friend Janice disappears on her wedding day leaving behind the body of her Uncle Elwood. Anxious to prove that Janice is not a murderer, Bubbles follows her to Amish country to get to the truth, at the same time hoping to get a good story for her editor.

Undercover as an Amish girl, Bubbles must manage without her beloved make-up and hot pants to find a murderer before her painted toe-nails and dark roots give her away!

Bubbles is a good character and this novel is as much fun as the first, although not very original. The world of Bubbles Yablonsky is startlingly like that of Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum.
Both heroines are funny, feisty and share a love of big hair-dos, lycra and make-up. Both have a gorgeous guy in hot pursuit, a host of kooky relatives and both are trying out new careers which don’t exactly come naturally…with hilarious results.

Evanovich does it better, but Bubbles in Trouble is a fun read whilst you’re waiting for the next Stephanie Plum instalment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than Evanovich! 15 Dec 2005
By SJ
Format:Paperback
Good fun, a comedy thriller with a cracking pace. Barbie-style hairdresser Bubbles is a great heroine, the only down side is that her recurring love interest is supposed to look like Mel Gibson. Eeyuk - the author needs to update her cultural reference points! Johnny Depp, anyone?

5.0 out of 5 stars Bubbles... A Tribute to Mystery Novels 20 Oct 2003
By David
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I am sure that you have hear the saying, "never judge a book by its cover". Well that saying fits perfectly with this book. Sarah Strohmeyer has included all the elements that build up to create the perfect suspensful murder mystery book. She makes the reader believe that they know the ending and that it will be like any other book where the main character ends up 'happily ever after' on one page. But on the next she will make them believe,'well maybe it won't end up happily'. She has filled the book with humour such as the cosmetic college that Bubbles graduated from, Two Guys University. This book kept me up well past my bedtime, it captivates the reader with its intricate plot in the first couple pages. I could not suggest a better book to a murder mystery fans, I guarantee anybody that this book will provide the perfect entertaining read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Insomniac's Friend 16 Dec 2008
By Neutral VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
At last a cure for insomnia!! Sarah Strohmeyer's underwhelming sense of character and plot (there was a plot?) was like reading the script of Duck Soup written by Karl Marx. As a potboiler it barely simmered, as a story it was the Brothers Grimm without the Brothers.

Making Whoopee with Intercourse and Paradise (don't ask, it's too painful to explain)the book's main claim to accuracy was the word "crime" on the cover. To call it a novel is criminal in itself.

I purchased the book second hand in pristine condition (someone at least had the sense to ditch it unopened). I asked for my money back but the Charity Shop where I bought it said they needed the 50p more than I did!!

4.0 out of 5 stars good but evanovich does it better 10 Aug 2008
Format:Hardcover
bubbles yablonsky is very like evanovich's stephanie plum and plum is much better. lots of silly adventures like waving a red wonderbra at a tractor driver and lots of silly characters, my favourite nimrod!!! good for a few hours of silliness at the end of the day to unwind.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hairdresser investigates. 5 Dec 2007
By Wyvernfriend VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Bubbles Yablonsky is built in the mould of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, she's a bit ditzy but she has a good heart and tends to get things done, somehow. This is the second story in the series about her. This time she finds herself drinking too much at a hen party (there was some dancing on a pool table) to celebrate Janice Kramer and Detective Mickey Sinkler's wedding. When she wakes up she's nearly late and the bride is no-where to be seen, though her uncle is dead, and his Rolls Royce is missing.

Bubbles finds out that Janice came from an Amish family and goes back to Janice's roots to find out the truth, gathering dead bodies and red herrings galore along the way.

It's a fun, light read, pure bubblegum, but it got several laugh-out-loud moments for me and was the perfect antidote to Unspeak.

1.0 out of 5 stars What rot! 25 Aug 2006
Format:Paperback
I have never read such a mind numbingly boring book. I know it's fiction but a crime solving Barbie type bimbo????????? The story is lame, predictable and to be honest insulting to anyone who is blonde or a hairdresser. The only reason for giving it one star is that there is no option to give it none. In short don't bother with this book, you will lose the will to live!
