4.0 out of 5 stars definite grower 21 Aug 2012

Not as immediate or raucous as their earlier albums. On first listen it
seemed slightly underwhelming. the strength of the songs though soon shine
through with repeated listens.kind of a mix of the velvet underground 3rd lp
and leonard cohen.

5.0 out of 5 stars NO SNAPS, JUST BUBBLEGUM... 31 Oct 2010
By F. M. Moses - Published on
Format:Audio CD a follower of Clinic since their sophomore release, "Walking With Thee," the band has successfully failed at ever letting me down when it comes to a collage of new tunes. Unfortunately, "Bubblegum," the band's seventh full-length studio album will probably be overlooked by some of the band's earlier fans for the simple fact that it's a mellow embrace of melody rich gems: a far cry from the punchy driven surf-guitar hooks of the past, over-loaded with those 60's style psychedelic organs to pump some mud into the veins til' the listener's going dance-mad...

...ha! "Bubblegum" is no's just as captivating as any piece these young Liverpool lads have released, building upon the ballad side of the "Do it!" catchy rhythms, with a bit more wah-wah guitar pedal & slow-based hooks. "I'm Aware" is among one the bands most beautiful moments ever, while "Linda" abstracts more of Syd Barret's Pink Floyd experimental side of the moon...

...nothing stale here...Clinic moves on without selling out, proving that music can still be an art-form without the corporate mass blind-fold of a ring of radio-friendly tunes or repeating the past of what's already been done ten times and over.

Surprisingly easygoing Clinic record. For some it may be a good start to enter the amazing world of Clinic music.

1.0 out of 5 stars CRASH! 9 Jan 2013
By Robert I Morreall - Published on
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
So two songs on this album sound extremely overproduced and the rest sound like demos for crappy singles. This was an odd commercial departure for Clinic, although brief. The album following this one--Free Reign--is very good and a definite more athentic Clinic.
