Product Description

Product Description

BubbleBum is the inflatable, portable, foldable car booster seat in a bag

Three children using the Bubblebum
The Bubblebum’s compact sizes means there is still room for three children in the back of a car.

BubbleBum is the only inflatable, truly portable and cost effective booster seat for kids between 4 and 11 years old.

Seat belt installation of the Bubblebum
Pass the lap section of the seat belt through the seat belt restraint located on both sides of the BubbleBum. The seat belt should fit firmly against the child.
Take it wherever you go

Designed to fit into your busy family life, the BubbleBum can go with them, wherever they go. The light, compact design means that when deflated and folded, it can be easily transported in schoolbags, handbags, rucksacks or even the glove compartment of your car, so that kids never have to be without a booster seat again. Weighing less than half a kilo, it can fit comfortably into mum's hand luggage or a child's travel bag ready to inflate quickly and easily.

When travelling, it's the perfect companion. There's no need to carry a bulky booster seat again with this lightweight, compact solution. This makes it perfect for holidays, rental cars, taxis, coach journeys, school trips or car pooling.

The inspiration behind the product

Mum of two, Grainne Kelly, came up with the idea for the BubbleBum after many years of carrying heavy, bulky, expensive booster seats around with the family.

Mrs Kelly commented, "I created the BubbleBum out of sheer frustration with what is currently available on the market. Modern families do a lot of travelling in cars, coaches and taxis, and bulky, heavy booster seats just aren't practical to carry around even for one child, never mind if you have two or three. BubbleBum has been designed to be small, light, practical and so easy to use that it's perfect even for quick taxi journeys. Plus it looks good, so kids don't mind carrying it around in their rucksacks or schoolbags."

Safety, comfort and practicality

The BubbleBum is safety-approved for Group 2-3 (4-11 year olds), meeting the ECE R44/04 Regulation. It passes the required tests both fully inflated and deflated. It is supplied with a comfort positioning belt to keep seat belt away from child’s neck, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey.

The material is easily wiped clean for those little mishaps, which can so easily happen on car journeys. The BubbleBum booster seat won’t create those unsightly dents in your car seats due to its unique design.

The seat is stored in a drawstring bag, about 10 inches high and 6 inches diameter. When you get it out, there are two ribbons with poppers which keep the seat rolled up. Undoing these, the seat simply opens out flat.

To inflate the seat, there is a nozzle at one corner. This is opened and closed by rotating a knob on the end. About 3 good puffs were enough to fully inflate the seat and I found it easy to close the nozzle before much air escaped again.

A separate strap is provided which loops around a strap on the underneath of the seat, and then clips to seatbelt at the child's shoulder. There are two red clips, fixed to either side of the seat, through which the lap part of the seatbelt is fed. This presumably helps stop the seat from sliding out from under the child and also ensures that the belt stays over the child's lap.

The seat cover is fairly standard material, and appears reasonably hard-wearing (only wipe-clean though, according to instructions). The inflatable cushion is made of fairly thick plastic, and I do not think would split easily (watch out for sharp objects on the car seat though, as the underside of the seat exposes the bare plastic of the inflatable.)

As a seat it was quite comfortable. Many booster seats are just hard plastic, so my daughter definitely found this to have more 'give'. I have not tested over a long journey, but I think this product is not really for that purpose anyway. It is for a quick taxi ride or accommodating an extra 'guest' child.

Finally, the acid test. Could I get the seat back into the cover? Yes! It takes a bit of wrestling to roll the seat up tightly enough to get the ribbons tied back round, but then it went into the bag just fine.

I think this seat is a great idea and it will be a permanent fixture in my boot from now on.

PS. As an extra freebie, the manufacturers provide a free iPhone or Android app with 4 simple travel games. To be honest, you could download this even if you did not buy the seat, but it's a nice thought and a nice bit of cross-promotion too

These days it is often not enough just to have a booster seat for your car, but you may need another one for Grandparents' or Child-minder's cars, or just when being given a lift by a friend. Or you might want a spare for when you give other children a lift. Or what about holidays?
We had just this problem this summer, and ended up buying Trunki BoostApak Travel Pack Booster Seat which was great as it doubled up as a backpack, and my eight year old carried it herself. However when I got the chance to try this booster cushion I jumped at the chance.
First impressions; it rolls up quite compactly, and even has its own little bag. I was concerned as you have to inflate it, and I have such bad experience of inflatable products. However it seems quite sturdily made, and we had no problems with air leaks. The valve seems well made too.
A huge advantage for us, is that it is quite narrow, and easy to move; which has meant we can use it in the middle seat of our Honda Jazz. This is the best place to seat our 8 year old on long journeys as it separates her big siblings, and prevents some squabbles.
She does prefer the comfort of her normal car seat, but was quite comfortable for 5 hours in the car one day over Christmas. She does also prefer her Trunki seat.
However this seat is very straight forward to use, and I could even manage the shoulder strap adjustment, although my daughter doesn't really need this. It also has the advantage of being very compact and light, so not too much of an inconvenience for a parent to either carry around or store in the car for emergencies. (I would imagine that some younger children wouldn't be able to, or would be reluctant to carry the Trunki booster.)
This product could readily find a home with most parents of young children, and would be a great addition for child minders an others who frequently transport several children.

    Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
The jury still seems to be out a little bit on this booster seat so I'm giving it a moderate "sit on the fence" 3 stars. Yes it has passed the safety testing, yes it has won many awards but some how we're still not entirely convinced that this booster seat is completely safe to use as an alternative to the foam variety. But that's not what it's for. It's not designed to be a permanent fixture in the car as a routine car booster seat. It is designed to be a small compact portable travel booster seat. It's going to be invaluable to those who travel regularly on planes and also to people who don't own a car but want their child to be safe on the odd occasion they get offered a lift. I know for me personally I have often being offered a lift home from somewhere only to have to refuse because there are no available car seats. If everyone had something like this in their boot there would always be a spare available.

I liked the colour - it's a leary purple with acid green trim. Not going to be to everyone's taste but it certainly stands out. It comes in it's own drawnstring pouch inside plastic tube packaging (which had to be thrown after being punctured). And the seat is certainly easy to blow up. On first reading the instructions I assumed it was self-inflating so I opened the valve and heard a puff of air and I waited and I waited and I waited. Realising it was NOT self inflating I blew into the valve once or twice and hey presto it puffed up. Much easier and quicker than an airbed (I wish all airbeds were made like that). Then you have to quickly close the valve before all the air escapes. The valve is like a radio knob NOT like the plastiv valve in armbands etc. It also comes with an attachment to harness the adult belt. We didn't use it though.

What I particularly liked about this booster is how narrow it is. We used it in my tiny Kia Picanto with three kids on the back seat. One in a full size car seat, one near teenager in the middle and the a 6 year old on the end. It meant they were all travel safely and much more comfortably. The standard sized foam boosters are bulky to say the least. The proof was in the pudding. At first my daughter refused to use it but one car journey later and she was sold on it. She said it was comfortable and wanted to use it again. That's enough for me. We'll keep it in the car for those occasions. For this reason I haven't attempted to deflate it but I suspect as another reviewer has pointed out it's going to be slightly more difficult stuffing it back into the bag. To deflate you simply open the valve again and push the air out by folding it in on itself.

    A good backup booster seat
Portable, efficient, inflatable. Good for holidays and day trips but you wouldn't want to use it everyday according to my daughter. Meh in a good way but no more.
