This little book is very handy and provide quick information that you can easily understand a city; however, some information is out of date, probably because it's published years ago. Some shop even closed down now; and the metro map doesn't work at all, the lines changed. If you just look for a quick guide to chocolate and stories, this is the one.

A very handy sized book that readily fits into your pocket yet loses nothing for being compact. Indeed it is a really useful guide for those visiting Brussels, Bruges, Antwerp and Ghent being packed with some helpful hints and suggestions. LIke the way the author has her priorities right dealing with the fine things in life that you would probably want whilst on a city break - food, drink and culture. A highly recommended guide.

I bought this guide before going to Belgium as a portable alternative to my Western Europe Guide from Lonely Planet (which is about a million pages and weights 2 tonnes).
It is much easier to use than the original LP format, friendly with its pictures and the organization into cities and then what to see, where to eat, shop and stay is very intuitive. However, I feel LP is going a bit into American Express' way, as many of the restaurants are a bit expensive, however, I don't know if it's their fault or the average price which is too high in some cities.
I think this is a great guide if you're not into true backpacking and are looking for some guidelines for your trip. Will definitely buy other Encounters for my future trips.

Although this book was quite informative it was out of date, which I should of looked at more closely, there are a lot of changes since it was printed!!

pretty useless
a brief and very superficial tourist guide with a pretty layout. Basically all practical information is left out as well as all background information. Read more

Hard work to use
This is a small paperback (10cm by 12cm?) with correspondingly small print and messy graphical design. So it has all the key information but is hard to navigate. Read more
