Product Description

Product Description

Terry Harrison presents a refreshingly simple guide that is packed with excellent, easy-to-follow demonstrations illustrating how to create stunning paintings. Acrylics are easy to master and extremely versatile. Paint can be applied thick like oils, or in washes like watercolour. Also, techniques can be mixed to create unusual and different effects. Using a range of brushes, Terry explores all these different techniques showing how to capture atmosphere, texture and detail. He paints a selection of beautiful landscapes, seascapes and buildings with ease, showing how to apply colour to produce stunning pictures of atmospheric skies, mist covered rivers, vibrant fields of flowers, rustic buildings, calm estuaries and more. With many hot tips and a wealth of practical advice, Terry presents an inspiring sequence of step-by-step demonstrations which aim to build up skills and encourage the artist to create their own original paintings.

About the Author

Terry Harrison became interested in art early on, attending Art School at the age of sixteen. His studies led to a career in graphics, then he became an illustrator, developing his own painting style and perfecting his techniques during evenings and weekends. Demand grew for his paintings and he soon gave up his 'day job' to paint full time. Now he is kept constantly busy with a full schedule of exhibitions, private commissions, demonstrations and painting holidays. His fine art prints are sold in shops and galleries everywhere and he has recently opened a successful art gallery where he displays and sells his paintings. Terry is an energetic and prolific painter and his regular rebookings for demonstrations reflect an enthusiastic response to his educational and entertaining style.

2.0 out of 5 stars A sales pitch for Terry's brushes, 3 Oct 2004
By A Customer
Having purchased Terry's Brush with Watercolour sometime back and found it quite inspirational I decided to buy this one. What a let down. The examples are boring and the techniques used are just a sales pitch for his own brushes. Even in the 'Watercolour book' there where examples that were obviously done in acylics yet you forgive them because they gave you ideas for your own projects. However, this book, apart from the pictures, must have taken all the time it takes to do a search and replace in a word processor to exchange 'watercolour' with 'acrylic'. Very disappointing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Salesman or Artist ?, 17 April 2009
By Mr, Roberts (England) - See all my reviews

The trouble with Terry Harrison (like some others I could mention) is that he is a salesman first & an art teacher second.
This book is virtually a manual on how to use his acrylic brushes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good way to start, 5 Aug 2009

I found this book a great way to start getting into painting with acrylics. You get a good breakdown of how to use the brushes to create the desired effects and gives demonstrations with a basic pallette for you to follow and perfect the techniques.

I found this a good book to help with with the basics and how to build from that. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn the basics.
