The sound on the Bruckner performance has rather high hiss levels but you soon become accustomed to them . This has all the hallmarks of the other BBC Legends Barbirolli performances , noble phrasing much sensitivity and a great deal of vigour . There are no longeuers here . I would recommend this performance to anyone notwithstanding the use of the Nowak edition. It is not by any means a library choice but a supplement to say one of Karajan's performances( I prefer the EMI 1970 recording )
The fill ups summon up muscular Beethoven conducting of a kind much missed by me .
Highly recommended.
