Biography

Biographyby William Ruhlmann

In the decades following his emergence on the national scene in 1975, Bruce Springsteen proved to be that rarity among popular musicians, an artist who maintained his status as a frontline recording and performing star, consistently selling millions of albums and selling out arenas and stadiums around the world year after year, as well as retaining widespread ... Product Description

This collection brings together Bruce Springsteen's first seven studio albums--featuring eight CDs in mini LP sleeves in an attractive, minimal red box. The albums featured are: Greetings from Asbury Park, The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle, Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River (2CD), Nebraska and Born in the USA. Please note, disc 4 (Darkness on the Edge of Town) is not compatible with all CD-Rom machines and as a result may not be transferable onto your MP3 player (such as iPod).

In this box, there's the first 7 albums by the "Boss", a total of 8 CDs as The River contains 2. I have always considered some his best work to be contained in these early albums, in fact they are all excellent apart from The River which I have always believed would have made a good single album, but contained filler to make up the 2 discs. Although I have all these albums, only one, Born To Run: 30th Anniversary Edition [2 DVD + 1 CD], is on CD as well as the original vinyl, therefore to get all the others in neat mini LP sleeves and a box was ideal as storage space is minimal.

I'll make my usual comment on packaging - all cardboard with the only plastic the CDs themselves - yippee!!

So if you're a fan of Bruce, want these 7 albums, and like the idea that they'll only take up the space of 3 normal CD cases, then get it - a great little package and great value.

No problem here importing 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' (or any of the other CDs in the box) into iTunes - worked as normal, no sign of any copy protection. This was using iTunes 10.4.1 running on OS X Lion, so maybe the copy protection is windows only(?) Or maybe they've removed it (?) Who knows, but it worked.

I needn't say anything about the music on offer here as anyone can find out plenty from other reviews although if you are reading this you probably know what to expect anyway. I would just like to let you know there is a way of importing the "Darkness On The Edge Of Time" album into iTunes. Just click the box on the "Badlands" track to NOT import this track. iTunes then ignores this track and imports the rest of the album so you can then put it on your iPod. If you then want to get the "Badlands" track it can be bought individually from Amazons MP3 Store for just 69p.

Excellent vinyl replacements! This is brilliant value for some of Springsteens early stuff. Every album is a classic. The packaging is neat too. The repro of the original album sleeve makes a good slip case for each of these discs.

whether you have zero or just a couple of bruce albums, then you need to get this. in a neat packaging, all CDs come in carboard slip cases, but it's not a problem as they all properly produced to look like each original album. at this price too it's amazing. plus between those 11 years bruce released his most brilliant work, each of the 7 albums is incredible. blah blah, JUST BUY IT!

This is an excellent box set with what is arguably Bruce Springsteen's best music and it's also excellent value for money. It's just a pity that the "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" album appears to be copy protected so you won't be able to import it in its entirety on to your computer.

Totally fabulous - I knew some of the older Springsteen stuff but have been totally blown away by both the stuff I didn't know and the stuff I'd forgotten was soooo good! Great Value box set.

If, like me you have most of the early Bruce collection on vinyl / audio cassette, this is such great value to update your listening. I've not listened to many of these albums for years (due to lack of tape player / record deck) but oh boy do these bring back great memories of the times when they used to be played on constant repeat.

For me my old faves include tracks like: Lost in the Flood & Mary Queen of Arkansas (from Greetings); Incident on 57th Street & NYC Serenade (from Wild).

The melodies, the vocals, the storytelling. Simply awesome.
