Product Description

Dr Brown's 8oz / 240ml Bottle Four Pack. Each bottle has a level 1 teat & vent cleaning brush. A complete feeding system for happier babies. Created by a physician, Dr Brown's Natural Flow® is the only baby bottle with a patented internal vent system that actually helps promote good health in babies. By eliminating the vacuum and air bubbles, it helps to reduce feeding problems like colic, burping and gas. And the positive pressure created by our system is as close to breastfeeding as your baby can get. Quite simply, it looks and works unlike any other bottle. 1: The patented Natural Flow internal vent system is the only vent that eliminates the vacuum and the air bubbles found in most baby bottles. It allows air to enter through the teat collar without being incorporated into the breast milk or formula. 2: The air is then channelled through the internal vent system to the area above the breast milk or formula. 3: Babies feed more comfortably because the vent allows them to nurse without fighting the negative effects of a vacuum or the discomfort of ingesting air bubbles. This helps to reduce colic, burping and wind. 4: The breast milk or formula flows freely through the teat as the air is channelled to the top of the bottle. This positive pressure eliminates teat collapse, and can help reduce the build of fluid in baby's ear.

Good... but Leaks 13 April 2009
My son had colic and I've started using Dr. Brown bottles when I first started introducing the bottle. They work really well by minimizing the amount of air bubbles. When compared to Avent bottles for example you can actually see the air bubbles in the Avent bottle and that makes more gas for babies.
But the problem with these bottles is that they leak a lot. You always have to make sue that they are not filled beyond the limit and that the tube inside the bottle is empty. But sometimes even if you have these two things checked the bottle still leaks.
Am still using them because the leaking is still much less of a problem than the chance of creating more colic to my baby.

I bought these bottles after being advised by health visitor. My daughter suffered from really bad trapped wind and wouldn't settle after feeding her. Bought these and noticed the difference straight away. She looked more comfortable when she fed and wasn't gulping it down as she had done with previous bottles. She brought up her wind straight away and settled straight away afterwards. You can actually see the air bubbles being trapped, rather than baby swallowing them. The bottles are alittle more fiddly to wash and steralise but are so worth the extra 2 minutes it takes. Like previous reviews i too found that they leaked but if you look on the Dr Brown's website this is common. Pressure builds when bottle is heated up, this occurs due to the special valve inside. If you just loosen the white plastic collar slightly, this will release the pressure and the bottle won't leak.(remember to tighten before feeding). Mine haven't leaked since. I can't recommend this product enough for babies who are struggling with trapped wind/colic.

I was so exhausted by the trial and error process that I had to undergo with my second baby when he would not take milk from any bottles because he would either get colicky or he disliked the teat. I never had that much of a problem with my first child with whom I used Avant milk bottles. But then again he didn't take to breastfeeding that well and preferred the bottle from the start. Whereas, with my second one I had breastfeed him up until 7 months and then needed to wean him off as I was returning back to work.

It was only with Dr Brown bottles and teats that he would take his formula milk and not have any problems with being too gassy, windy or colicky. I think the Dr Brown teats are softer and bottle mechanism mimics breastfeeding experience the closest.

However, the only gripes that I have with this brand are: there are a lot of bits and pieces to wash before sterilising, more expensive and it tends to leak. The latter I don't have much of an issue with now as I use the feeder stopper when preparing the milk so it hardly ever leaks now.

But these gripes of mine are minor and pale in comparison to the benefits these milk bottles provide for my son. As I have a mantra; 'A happy baby makes a happy mummy, a grumpy, sad baby makes a even grumpier, sadder mummy'.
