5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, Practical and Beautiful, 25 April 2006

I admit that I have a sweet tooth and that I consider myself a brownie afficionado. Over the years I've collected dozens of recipes and I have my favorites. So I approached Liz Franklin's "Brownies and Bars" with some skepticism. I first tried three of the brownie recipes - "Cherry, Chocolate and Kahlúa Brownies," "Cardamom and Orange Brownies," and the "Orange Marmalade and Chestnut Brownies," and they were fine! Then I turned my attention to the non-brownie recipes: they are creative and diverse-- the two that I tried were just as good as the brownie recipes. Their directions were easy to follow; the photography was helpful and beautiful. Can't wait to try more recipes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic and exciting all in the same book !, 10 April 2006

Bought this book because it was highly reccomended in BBC's Good Food magazine. Was not dissapointed. Most recipes are based on the same or similair amounts of sugar/butter/egg/flour but the final ingredients are exciting and mouthwatering. Have made 6 recipes so far and all of them have been yummy ! Word of warning: this is NOT a low-in-sugar/fat kind of book... but delicious all the same...

5.0 out of 5 stars Brownies and Bars, 13 April 2006

This book is jam packed with the most delicious recipes for tray bakes and brownies. The Linzertorte recipe works beautifully well - linzertorte pastry is notoriously difficult to handle because it has a high butter content and is made with ground almonds - but patience pays off. The photgraphy is sensational too.
