Product Description

Product Description

We all need to know where we come from, where we belong. But for David and Nathalie, this need to know is more urgent than for most people, because they are adopted. Brought up by the same parents, but born to different mothers, they have grown up, fiercely loyal to one another, as brother and sister. Their decision, in their late thirties, to embark upon the journey to find their birth mothers, is no straightforward matter. It affects, acutely and often painfully, their partners, the people they work with and, most poignantly, the two women who gave them up for adoption all those years ago, and who have since then made other lives, even borne other children.

poorly researched 28 July 2010
By Ms. M. Potter TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
The basic plot of this book could be good. But it has been a wasted opportunity. The author attempts to create a social issue about the emotions of two people, a brother and sister. Both from different mothers and both adopted by the same parents. In the search for their respected roots the loyalties to each other and their adopted family and their birth family and everyone else that knows them COULD be challenged. But sadly the author fails to express what I feel would be the true impact of emotions felt by all concerned. And at the end of the whole tale I was left feeling short changed for a satisfactory conclusion.
The audio aspect is ok. The book is read well enough, and their is enough effort in the reader to convey the story. Its just that the story isnt very good.

As the parent of two adopted children I could identify with the characters in this story and whilst I am sure there could have been a deeper exploration of the emotions and issues the subject raises, I'm not sure they could have been any better explored within the confines of a work of fiction without sacrificing the story itself.
