The Best CD ever! 30 Oct 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I bought Brother not too long ago and I just have to say the music goes really well with each scene. one of my favorite songs
is "On The Shore". The piano in the beginning of the song is one of my absolute favorite musical pieces in the song. The strings were also excellent. "Wipe Out" went excellent with the war scene. The piano in the opening title of the song was composed excellently, adding the strings created a classical masterpiece all the way to the end. My last favorite song was "Brother". The same pitch & tone from "Drifter in...LAX"
and "On the shore", but a few extra notes made it the best in the last scene with Kitano. All-in-all, this is the best CD to go out and purchase. The DVD is also a must have to purchase.
Joe Hisaishi is the best composer and performer to come out with a hard-hitting soundtrack in the world.

Wipe Out 20 May 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
"Wipe Out" has turned into my surprise favorite track on this CD. It's the music during the scenes near the closing of the story, when Aniki and brothers are finally at war with the Mafia. The power of "Wipe Out" (and the similar,"Liberation from the Death") is masked by the dialog and heavy gunfire of the scenes, so it was a very pleasant surprise to finally hear it clearly on the CD.

"Wipe Out" is somewhat simpler musically than the "Ballade" theme used in many of the other tracks. It's strength comes from an incredibly fluid and moving passage played passionately through successive sections of the orchestra: the regal french horns, followed by delicate flutes, authoratative trumpets, sweeping violas and briefly by an oboe solo.

"Wipe Out" reaches it's grandest and most sweeping moment when the violins finally play-the moment Denny visits his mother and family for the last time. Listening to those violins, it's not hard to envision the scene and feel the emotions felt behind that closed front door.

"haunting jazz themes prevail...Joe Hisaishi!" 3 July 2001
By J. Lovins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
What can I say about this composer...after writing his triumphant score "Princess Mononoke", which was an instant hit, epic beyond all words. Now with this beautiful theme weaving throughout his latest film score ~ "Brother", shows the music world what it's all about...versatility in composing, that is the secret to success and longevity...and Hisaishi has it!
