The Scoop highchair grows with your child
The Scoop highchair grows with your child.

The Brother Max Scoop is a highchair so advanced it grows with your family, while its elegant design makes a striking addition to any contemporary kitchen.

Developed with ergonomic design specialists Seymourpowell, the Scoop Highchair starts life as an ergonomic highchair for babies and converts into a proper, stylish stool suitable for use by children up to five years old. It adjusts with ease to any height table top or breakfast bar, ensuring baby becomes part of family mealtimes, and can be easily stored away afterwards.

Made from chrome, stainless steel and premium moulded plastic, its sophisticated and streamlined design means there are no dirt traps, for better hygiene, and no finger traps for improved child safety. Other unique features include a smooth, child-friendly mechanism which allows the table to be moved completely clear of the child for easy access and 'table top' eating.

An ergonomic seat insert (sold separately) can be added to provide additional comfort and support for smaller babies. For maximum flexibility and value-for-money, this seat insert, and the entire table section, can then be completely removed, converting the Scoop Highchair into a stylish stool that will see your child through to around five years old.

An ingenious one-touch pneumatic lift feature enables you to adjust the height of the chair with ease, whilst a clever rotating feature allows the seat to turn a full 360 degrees. Smooth gliding castors on the base offer portability around the house, with far more ease than other highchairs.

Assembly of the chair takes just five minutes, while a high build quality ensures ultra safe and sturdy mechanisms. The Scoop Highchair is the only non-wooden high chair on the market that is certified as both a highchair and a piece of furniture.

Celebrity mum Denise Van Outen loves the Scoop Highchair. Writing in Prima Baby magazine she described it as "genius" and "a brilliant design".

Features of the Scoop Highchair:
  • Ultra hygienic design with no dirt traps that is easy to wipe clean.
  • Highchair converts into a contemporary chair suitable for use by children up to 5 years old.
  • Specifically designed to work without a harness when the table is in the closed position, although one is supplied if this option is preferred. The only highchair on the market to solve the problem of little ones trying to lift themselves out!
  • Effortless pneumatic lift; height adjustable for table, breakfast bar or sofa feeding, or convenient storage.
  • Table moves clear of child for easy access in and out of highchair, or removes for sitting at table.
  • Removable ergonomic seat insert (sold separately) supports smaller babies; insert is removed as baby grows.
  • Incredibly comfortable for all ages, due to its ergonomic design by industry specialists Seymourpowell.
  • No finger traps.
  • Rotates 360 degrees for easy access.
  • Smooth gliding castors for portability.

If you are looking for a great looking highchair that's easy to use and clean, comfortable for your baby and fully height adjustable then this is definitely worth looking at. The harness-free design is particularly useful and very simple indeed. It is a big and heavy chair which makes it very solid but also less easy to move around, especially as it only has two small casters on the back instead of full caster and breaks. That means in order to move it one needs to lift up the front (not easy!) and then roll it about. We have hard wearing carpet but with laminate flooring I would be concerned about scratching the floor that way. Another less than ideal feature is the lever at the back that allows turning the chair in 90 degree steps. It's small and difficult to use and could easily be made more ergonomic. Overall a very good concept and product but make sure it's right for your household.

We have been using this highchair since Christmas 2010. It is superb. Our daughter loves being in it; putting her in it is simplicity itself; it is very easy to keep clean; it has a big heavy base, which makes it very stable (important as our daughter gets very energetic with excitement at mealtimes!); it is beautifully engineered, robust and easy to assemble; it is also attractive to look at. We have had a number of flatering comments made by friends who have seen it and/or whose children have sat in it. The obvious minus points are (a) it is expensive and (b) its big, stable base needs a significant amount of room. So, if you have a good-sized eating area and you are fortunate enough to stretch to the asking price then we would say - go for it, you won't regret it. We 'test-drove' the Bloom Fresco highchair alternative(which is even more expensive) and, frankly, it wasn't in the same league as the Scoop - too difficult to keep clean and not as robust or well made. My wife and I bought one of these not long after our first baby began weaning - we'd already had some other Brother Max products, like the food portioners and the milk dispenser, and liked the fact that they were novel, practical and stylish.

The high chair is like no other on the market - it looks great, and everyone comments on how funky it looks when they see it in our kitchen. If it's usage didn't live up to the same level, however, I wouldn't be writing this review, but it's in the simplicity and practicality of its use that it really excels, and why it stands a clear head and shoulders above the "traditional" types of high chair.

Putting the child in the seat takes all of five seconds - hold the child with one arm, click the switch underneath the table. The table slides forward, you pop the baby in, and push the table back into place. And that's it. No messing about with straps, no trapping your fingers in anything - click, slide, baby in, slide, job done. To get the baby out, it's just as easy - click the switch, table slides forward, and pick up the baby. When we go and stay at relatives and have to revert back to using a traditional high chair it's noticeable how much more of a hassle it is!

The seat, combined with the table mechanism, keeps the child safely in place whether you use the insert or not - we took the insert out when our son was just over a year old. It comes with straps, but they've stayed in the box - we were a little bit dubious at first, as we didn't really understand how the chair would keep the baby in place, but it does - and more than that, because it's so comfortable for him, our son doesn't show the slightest inclination to try and get out. The bottom is on castors, so you can slide it around, and is nice and stable so no matter how much wriggling around the baby does, there's no chance that they'll tip over the chair.

There's no denying that it's more expensive than a traditional high chair, but then it does grow as the baby does - the seat insert comes out as they get older, then the table mechanism can be removed to use it as a stool, so I reckon it'll be in use until our son's 5 at least, and it's solidly built so I don't doubt it'll still be in good shape at that stage. And when I think of all the time that we'll save over those years by not having to mess about with straps, it's well worth the investment!
