I have 2 of these for 6-9 months. Printer & fax work really well. scanning is slow in HiRes but OK when you drop it to mono and use lo-but adequate-res. With latest software & patches(from brother.co.uk) it does scan multi pages to one LAN PDF file and also can email multi pages as a single pdf attachment. You can hand feed envelopes for printing and the normal printer paper feed is good. The paper feeder for the copier/scanner/fax is less reliable but you tend to stand over it then anyway. can we get the same thing in all an colour version Brother?

I purchased this Brother AIO (MFC) printer through Amazon.co.uk and am very happy with the service and the product. It does what is mentioned in amazon website. As this is network ready, I connected this to one of the ports of my ADSL Modem wireless router. I could print from both desktop and laptop. This was very easy.
The only downside is that scanning cannot be done over the network. USB connection to the printer is necessary. Unfortunately the required cable is not provided.

Overall a good product for any Home-Office.

I got swayed by reviews of this multifunction device, and thought that I'd have not only fine text printing but good scanned photo images and at least reasonable quality even in the middle tones in photos in printouts and photocopies.

In the event, although I have no quibble at all about the machine's results for text, all results from photos, whether printed out or scanned, are of poor quality, with striations and faint banding across medium tones. In the case of scanned photos the problem doesn't show initially, because dark tones are generally blocked out as black, and it's only when I use the 'lighten shadows' facility in Photoshop Elements that the striations show up - but you can't avoid doing that if you're to have an acceptable end result. Also, the colour rendering of scans is poor, so that I routinely had to use Photoshop Elements to add some green and red in order to get something reasonably lifelike.

I thought at least the striations must be a fault that could be fixed, but after I reported the problem a Brother engineer came to check the machine, and he assured me that I couldn't expect better from this type of machine.

So, I have wasted my money in purchasing this model, and will presently be selling this and looking out for a new printer / multifunction device, which gives better graphics quality.
