Very pleased with this small laser printer. Ordered on a Sunday, delivered next day on Monday which surprised me for starters. The machine is about the same size as a multi-function inkjet. I bought mine to print b&w docs, and kept an inkjet for colour, scans, copies, faxes etc. Connection to wireless network required connecting by USB (could have been to a router by ethernet) and running install software for setting passwords etc off a supplied CD. This took about 15 minutes all in, with installation of the drivers on to a laptop. Connecting other network machines to the printer was done by wifi in the Mac OS print & fax control panel, after having downloaded the right drivers from brother's website (which is quite simple). That's another 10 minutes approx. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and there were no problems.
This printer prints duplex or single sided. To print duplex it ejects the sheet, then reingests it to print the other side. The process is quick. I bought the machine to print academic documents (mostly text and tables) and performance is very acceptable. I notice that the (inexpensive) copier paper I use can be a bit curly after duplex printing, but seems to flatten down afterwards. Brother advertises this machine as printing 'booklets' which suggested to me a rather clever reordering of the page numbers so that (typically) A4 pages can be squeezed two each side of a sheet of A4 landscape, and the whole thing bound by staples in the middle. If that's possible, I haven't worked out how yet, but printing so you get four pages per sheet and turn them over to read is simple enough (read the online manual, and tweak and save the printer settings to do it).

Recently jumping ship from PC to Mac necessitated buying a new laser printer as there was no Mac driver for the old machine. I focused on this particular Brother printer as it met the criteria I was looking for, namely: Wireless ready, optional duplex printing, a decent sized paper container and on going running costs for the consumables that looked acceptable. In addition there was the usual gold plated service on offer from Amazon, being: an affordable purchase price, no shipping charges, a hassle free returns policy if things go wrong and promise of a timely delivery.
The wireless installation was no problem. The enclosed instructions were clear, concise, and easy to follow. The test print came out on cue and was perfect at the first attempt.
After a month's use I have no cause for any concern. The print is fine and even double sided print shows no signs of a heat curl when ejected from the machine. That all said there are a couple of minor cons albeit probably of no significance to the majority of users. The printer is a tad noisy for anyone wanting a whisper quiet office environment and the first page is a bit on the slow side coming out of its starting blocks, however, page 2 and those thereafter make up for lost time and cause no raised eyebrows. It comes in black only. My own preference would have been for the ubiquitous grey had a choice been available. On balance this promises to be a worthy machine meeting all my home office requirements and well deserving the 'Good Buy' recommendation I am giving it.

I was looking for a laser printer with a duplex unit that I could connect to wirelessly for use in the house. This is an ideal unit; nice, compact, and a no-fuss, well-guided setup. It's a little slow compared with other printers that I've used, but waiting time is not really an issue for small print jobs. I highly recommend it.

Beware of products with no English instructions or plug - they are not UK models and Brother(UK) will not let you register them or undertake warranty service. These are French machines that Amazon sourced from Brother(France) and any warranty claims involves shipping your printer to France. I confirmed this with Brother(UK) customer services.

Why is every electronics manufacturer obsessed with black? Black boxes show the dust, remind me of funerals and just look so gloomy and old fashioned. Perhaps the Addams Family secretly runs the Ministry of Product Design in Japan?
Apart from that, the Brother HL-2270DW is compact and works well. The toner cartridge is already fitted, you simply remove a tag to unlock it. A firm pull opens the paper drawer; it holds about 250 sheets of A4.
I have not yet managed to configure the wifi, because our Brother has to work with an ageing Apple imac, but the cable connection was easy. There is no hardware button to select double sided printing (weirdly described as "duplex"), but I found the instructions on the web, eventually. The 'double sided' feature is marvellous, saves paper; unlike an inkjet printer, you do not have to wait for the ink to dry and then painstakingly feed in the sheet. The magic box spits out the paper and then whizzes it back in again, at full speed in reverse gear, to do the B side.
Print quality excellent. Ideal for a very small business. For those who are more familiar with inkjets, be aware that the Brother HL-2270DW is noisy (fan etc) at start up and in use, but quieter in standby mode. It has a proper on/off switch at the side.
Package arrived promptly from Amazon, excellent service as usual.
Would I recommend this model? Yes, although an easier wifi installation process would be helpful.
