My girlfriend got me this for my birthday at my request and it is a very interesting piece of work. Suffice to say that I love it. That said it does suffer from a couple of problems. Primarily the clock as with the other Van Den Bros Gear clocks is made almost entirely of cheap plastic. This wouldnt be a problem if you were paying 20gbp but 75gbp is a different matter, I would imagine they are cutting a large profit on these clocks. The clock itself is quite flimsy and when looked at closely you can clearly see the grooves where you pieced it together.
Secondly the large ring hangs loosely on the gears which turn it. This would not be a problem except that the clock often catches a screw and the large ring sways alarmingly, this is both distracting and disappointing for the money paid.
All that said the clock is very very intriguing, my father visited the other day and spent around 20 minutes staring at it mesmerized. In addition to this I am considering purchasing the black version as it really is a captivating item that will draw and hold anyones eye. All in all would highly recommend if you have the money to spend.
