I have been a fan of Clint Eastwood for quite some time now and when i first saw this movie i was quite supprised at how fun and enjoyable it was to watch. When you think of Clint you usually picture him in films like 'Dirty Harry' or 'High Plains Drifter' which of course he very suited too, however in my opinion he is still as good in the few, more milder films that he has done over the years, such 'Bronco Billy' and 'Paint Your Wagon'. He still manages to bring that classic 'Clint Eastwood' feel that we all know and love, to the whole thing, without the violence etc and thus allowing the kids to enjoy that Clint magic as well.
Bronco Billy McCoy, the fastest guns in the west, and his team of circus performers go round performing to schools, hospitals and just the general public all over the place. On their travels they meet the very snobbish Antoinette Lilly who has just been left by her husband, and Billy offers her a ride to the nearest town and in return she will be his assistant at his next show. However when they arrive at the next town, she decides to stay with the gang, and be Bronco Billy's assistant for a while longer.
Things go ok for a while until a pub brawl results in one of the gang being put in prision by the local sherif, and while Billy is negociating a release deal, their circus tent goes up in flames. Luckily no one is hurt and after trying to rob a train to rasie the funds for a new one, they call upon the help of a institusion for the criminally insane where the patience sew things in their spare time. Things take a sudden turn however when they find Miss Lilly's husband in the institusion for the murder of Antoinette Lilly herself! She then returns home to New York but realising that she is in love with Billy, she comes back, just in time for the next show.
The acting is generally good throughout the cast of this film; Clint Eastwood as the mean (on the surface) fastest hands in the west Bronco Billy McCoy; Sondra Locke as the snobbish New Yorker Antoinette Lilly, who eventually falls in love with Billy and becomes a bit of a sweetheart; Scatman Crothers as the happy and smilie Doc Lynch; Bill McKinney as Lefty the guy who had his right arm blown off by a shotgun in a performance; and Dan Vadis as the Indian appachi cheif who continually gets bitten in his rattle snake performance.
Overall, 'Bronco Billy' is a really fun and enjoyable film that the whole family can sit down and enjoy and the kids especially can see some of the Clint magic. It just shows that Clint Eastwood is not all about violence as you can see in this film, and even without it, he can still put his mark on it with the one-liners and just his voice really. Recomended to all, especially if you are a Clint fan with kids.

I really wasn't sure at first what this film was going to be - a comedy, a Western, a drama or what? It's a tiny bit of all of those, but forgetting the precise genre for a moment, it's basically an all-round great family film with a class performance from Mr Eastwood. The rest of the cast are memorable too (watch out for Scatman Crothers just being fantastic as usual!).
For those who like Clint Eastwood in a softer guise (NO PRIMATES ATTACHED!) this is just great.

Good family fun
There aren't many films which can keep kids glued to the screen as much as Bronco Billy, but twenty years on this 'kids classic' is still delighting old and young alike.
