Total Action Football is like a Subbuteo - Striker crossover, where you can flick/push the player with the ball Subbuteo style or push down like Striker to kick.
The game works with a magnetic ball and magnetic player bases, you pass and shoot by pushing down or run with the ball by pushing the player along. The rules are pretty ill-defined so you can make them up as you go along - FIFA would have a fit!
The playing area is about 3ft by 2ft, more Striker size than Subbuteo, and the play lacks the structure of Subbuteo which for years was the pinnacle of table top football games. The ball can be difficult to control with anything but short passing but that does encourage a more thoughtful method of play.
The players are plastic and twist onto the bases, so some assembly is required. As the players are made of plastic you do need to be quite careful to avoid breaking them so this is probably best done by an adult. My main concern was that the players didn't look that strong and that heavy handed kids may break them when trying to shoot. However, they do seem to be a bit more robust than they first appear and although we have had a couple of career-ending injuries these were caused mainly by accident rather than in the course of the game.
The main drawback of the game is that you only get 11 players for each side, so breakages are noticeable. With the players that go on the bases being just plastic you would have thought that at the pirce they are selling this they could have put in a few spares. You do get 2 balls, but these are small and easily lost. Being magnetic they are not replaceable so be careful.
