The Ghebite forces led by General Tulkhan defeat the mystical T'En to take control of Fair Isle, a place they ruled for six-hundred years. Amongst the captives is the last surviving female T'En, Imoshen. Even as his own Elite Guard fears her and his priestesses would declare his prisoner void of a soul, Tulkhan can see the intelligence in her eyes. Still, he too worries that the powerful T'En will capture his spirit.
The only other T'En survivor is Imoshen's betrothed, Reothe, who leads a counterrevolutionary group. Imoshen fears that Reothe's insurrection will only lead to more deaths. However, if she joins forces with Tulkhan, she sees a lasting peace, but at a high personal cost. Though neither one trusts the other, both begin to fall in love as they work as a team trying to end the bloodshed.
BROKEN VOWS is a very entertaining romantic fantasy that will provide immense pleasure to sub-genre fans. The story line centers on the conflict and attraction between the two strong lead personalities. The supporting players bring the otherworldliness of the plot to such a vivid degree of life that it makes this tale quite unique for genre lovers. Though much is not answered (as is very common with fantasy novels), readers will want to peruse the remaining two novels in Cory Daniels' enjoyable "the Last T'En" trilogy.
