Product Description

Album Description

• A further selection of prime cuts that explore aspects of the Vietnam war – as seen through the eyes of black America.

• Many of the biggest names in 60s and 70s soul offer personal, pertinent and pointed views, embracing everything from war’s impact on human relationships to the often devastating consequences for its casualties and survivors alike.

• Consistently as good as the first volume in every department, and containing many tracks that were either unavailable for licence at the time of the first volume, and many others that there just wasn’t room to fit onto the award-nominated "A Soldier’s Sad Story".

• Around half of these tracks have never appeared on CD before and most of those, have in fact, never been reissued before.

On first hearing I was dissapointed as the first CD 'A Soldiers Sad Story' is so good. After a few plays it grew on me and now I,ve come to realise that it,s fantastic.Stand out tracks are the wonderful Take Good Care by Tony Mason,I Should Be Proud by Martha Reeves and of course March To The Witches Castle by Funkadelic who had personnel who had fought in the conflict. My only gripe is the inclusion of a poor version of War by the Temptations. It,s far too familiar for this compilation. But buy the first CD as well,if only for the perfect Lights Out by Zebren R Hicks.

Does Anybody Know I'm Here?: Vietnam Through the Eyes of Black America 1962-1972 6 July 2007

Format:Audio CD
I enjoyed this CD very much. I grew up with this music starting in 1962 the year of my birth. It brought back memories of Vietnam, how we would as a family gathered around the tv and watch the news of Vietnam. Every night and day praying that my family members that were in Nam would come home alive and in one piece. With the situation in Iraq, that our kids {teenagers and young adults} are dealing with, this CD is perfect. The feelings of many parents, the kids in Iraq and people who have family members in Iraq, will be touched by these songs. Someone should send a copy of this CD to the "Whitehouse", these are the feelings of the majority of the people. I'm not making it a political issue. "Freedom comes at a price." But are we really getting any freedom with this war? At the price of this war! ["What are we getting?"] I guess the CD is great but it got me very sad because our present is our past. I'm sorry, it's just tugging at my emotions. I'm a parent, I feel for all children and parents that have to deal with our current situation every day of their lives from now on. Maybe this CD can add a little peace in their lives. I recommend that you should buy it, the music and lyrics of every song are great. If you love soul, this is soul that gets into your soul and makes you sing out loud no matter where you're at or what you're doing. Ok people go buy it and enjoy the CD as much as I am enjoying it daily. Your friends will enjoy it also. It was nice letting you guys know my feelings on the "CD". One happy customer, Tino.
