This collection contains two blu-ray discs with six 50 minute episodes of broken blade, covering the first ten volumes of the manga series from Flex Comix by Yunosuke Yoshinaga. The first four episodes stay fairly close to the manga series, while the last two omit a lot of material.
Mecha-action might be the best description for this; there are some infrequent comedic or romantic elements also. Comedy in the Japanese anime sense, which can be a bit crude, most of the time it involves either a guy getting a gun pointed at his face or a knife at his groin (or both), or a girl getting her bust size criticized.
The Japanese voice actors are mostly top-tier, among them Chiwa Saitou, Kana Hanazawa (Senjougahara and Sengoku from Bakemonogatari) and Marina Inoue.
The subtitles are decent, but in an annoying yellow color. Also, there are no extras to speak of, just a clean version of the opening song, and previews for other titles from Sentai Filmworks.
The image is of high quality, except for some occasional banding on gradients in transition shots.
