Unfortunately, despite its claim to be "suitable for IBM Thinkpad", the Broadcom BCM4318 MiniPCI wireless card DOES NOT WORK in the IBM Thinkpad R31. I tried several sources but was unable to find a driver that will make it work. I have since obtained, from a local computer fair, an Intel Pro 2200BG Mini PCI 54G Wireless Adapter card, complete with driver disk, and this works quite well.

Works with Windows 7 when installed in a Dell D800 Latitude. Windows 7 detected it and installed the driver automatically. Makes a change!

Took a while to find the driver as some bcm43xx drivers don't work. I had to search Google for the term "PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4318&SUBSYS_50101468&REV_02" in order to obtain the correct drivers.
Ended up with the correct driver from the site below.

The Laptop (Inspiron 4100) sees the card ok.
