After a few listens I'm beginning to think this could be the soundtrack to the summer. It certainly has all the right ingredients and presses all the right buttons. Sweeping strings, well constructed songs, catchy choruses and laid back grooves. The lead singer has apparently been a backing singer for Terry Callier and there is definitely a flavour of Terry on this recording. Fans of Rotary Connection/Minnie Ripperton will also have plenty to like here. Zero 7 and 4 Hero are more contempary comparisons although this is only in feel rather than actual distinct similarities.
The album starts with perhaps the strongest and most immediate track "We Don't Know How", great vocals and reminds me of 'Les Fleur' which is no bad thing. Other highlights include Broad Souls, There's No Time, God Inside and Hear My Prayer.
Spiritual, uplifting and perfect for a sunny day in the garden!

HASH(0x930ed6e4) out of 5 stars Faze Action - Broad Souls 1 Mar. 2011
By scoundrel - Published on
Format: Audio CD
BROAD SOULS is a mildly disappointing third album from Faze Action; they've gone from making great neo-disco to middling soul. "We Don't Know How" introduces us to the vocals of Andre Espeuf in a psychedelic soul session. The strings that made their first two albums wonderful are here again, but they take a back seat to the vocals. "Three Foot High" works somewhat better, perhaps because it's more stripped down -- the same goes for "Outside" (even if it steals a riff from Stevie Wonder's "Part-Time Lover"). The flute and horns of "Goodbye Remedy" still speak of Faze Action's songwriting skills, though "Walking Time" could use a little more writing and a little less looping. "Vigilante Song" and "There's No Time" bring some dusk to the album, and "God Inside" gives a dark spin to spirituality, but "Hear My Prayer" gets back to the positive side. By no means is this a poor album, but I had simply expected better.
HASH(0x94bb1798) out of 5 stars PLEASE DON'T EXPECT A "MOVING CITIES"!!! 10 Nov. 2004
By D. Lee - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Veering away from the uptempo funk of the impressive "Moving Cities", Faze Action slows the beat down tremendously on the their latest release "Broad Souls". This time full of sexy vocals from male vocalist (a rare thing on electronica albums) Andre Espuet and blissful orchestration from the brethren producers Simon and Robin Lee, "Broad Souls" sounds like a cross between Air, Zero 7 and Alpha. Not as daring as material from the aforementioned groups, "Broad Souls" still holds its own as a pretty satisfying and emotional downtempo album.
