5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best guide to Orlando and Walt Disney World, 4 Jan 2002
By Debbie Churchill (Gloucester, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Whether you're first-timer or a seasoned Orlando visitor, believe me, you need this book.

I've just returned from my sixth visit to the vacation capital of the World, with a seventh already booked. For years I shunned this guide with its connotations of knotted-hankie, rolled-up trouser wearing Brits abroad in favour of the major players' offerings (Fodor's, Frommer's, et al). And very good they are. But allow yourself to get past the title and there's just no going back!

Each chapter has a witty subtitle, for example, Eating Out (or, Watching the Americans at Their National Sport), and the pages are scattered with little Union Jack boxes containing 'Brit Tips' - every one a gem.

Simon Veness really has got everything covered. And, as a six-time visitor and the owner of innumerable guidebooks on the area, I consider myself qualified to make the judgement. All the parks (not just those of the Disney empire) are given thorough coverage, and the Off the Beaten Track chapter is indispensable for old-timers like me, or for those who may find themselves weary of the endless commercial onslaught. There's invaluable information on driving Stateside; details of every shopping venue imaginable (including maps, directions and opening hours); ALL the accommodation options (most American guides focus on hotels and overlook the popular choice for Brits of the private villa); and even a chapter devoted to going home which provides detailed information on both airports. And I mean detailed! Were it not for this book, we would not have discovered McCoy's Bar and Grill in the Hyatt Hotel at Orlando International Airport. A couple (or six) of pre-flight Manhattans has become an essential part of our going home ritual.

If you are travelling to Orlando, do yourself a favour and BUY THIS BOOK. For first-timers it is every bit as essential as your passport. Old hands will use it in much the same way as a dictionary. It rarely leaves my side.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have "bible" for anyone visiting Walt Disney World, 20 April 2002
By A Customer
We went to Disney this Easter with our Children aged 12, 10 and 7. It was to be a once in a child time trip and one eagerly awaitd by all three but dreaded by Mum and Dad. I had heard horror stories of long queues and miserable children and was determined to avoid both whilst seeing and doing as much as possible.
Before travelling I read much of the Brit's Guide and by following the author's excellent advice we "did" Disney. We were there for 10 days, visited all the 4 major Disney parks plus Universal studios and Blizzard Beach. We also visited Discovery Cove where the children swam with Dolphins.
This book is a must. I believe there were record crowds at the parks and we rode every major ride, saw all the shows, all the top attractions and didn't do any queuing! I think we were the only people there who knew about the fast pass!
The book is laid out in a very clear and concise manner, very user friendly and a very definite "must".

5.0 out of 5 stars The only guide book needed for Orlando., 15 Dec 2001
By rwnm@mercury1996.localdial.com (Jersey,Channel Islands) - See all my reviews
Basically this is the only guide book that is
required reading when planning and getting around
the experience that is Orlando.
The fact that the book is updated each year through visitors` adventures being relaid to the author coupled to his frequent visits means that it is highly unlikely that you will get a nasty
suprise when visiting a recommended venue. This is almost unique when considering guide books in
general-this is especialy relevent with the
dynamic situation that exists in Orlando.
Everything is covered from arriving at the airport
to driving,eating,shopping,beaches and oh!yes
Theme Parks! Each park has each ride rated for
excitement and suitability.Even the parks` food
outlets are reviewed.
In conclusion this is the only guide that is needed for a trip to Orlando to ensure that you
have the holiday of a lifetime.Infact the biggest
misnomer is the title as many Americans are great
fans of the book
