Product Description

Book Description

Your visit to New York can be one of the most exhilirating, action-packed and varied holidays you're ever likely to have. Where else can you feel as if you're on top of the world at the Empire State Building in the morning and then feel as if you're in the deepest, darkest mass of swirling humanity should you visit Chinatown later in the day? To visit New York is to at once experience all the contradictions that life has to offer. Only in this city do you get the high-priced, high-end, high-class living that is life on the Upper East Side, yet within a stone's throw of the down-and-dirty El Barrio area of Harlem. Or visit the Downtown district of Wall Street, where the contrasts between old and new, tradition and modernity are represented by the juxtaposition of Colonial buildings alongside modern skyscrapers. The thrill, the excitement and the sheer fun of discovering it all - along with the shopping, the extraordinary restaurants, spectacular Broadway musicals, quirky, offbeat off-Broadway winners, the never-ending stream of gawkers and hawkers in the modern-day melting pot that is Times Square, or visiting any one of the marvellous, inspirational museums all while staying in a bijou boutique home-from-home or swanky, skyline-dominating hotel. This is New York in the Noughties: an experience not to be missed. And the inspiration to see it all and to experience it all positively bounces off the pages of the Brit's Guide to New York. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From the Author

I've loved New York since the first time I pounded its streets one April weekend back in the Nineties. Cosmopolitan by nature, this is one capital that truly can be all things to all people. And it is this magic that I have tried to capture in my book, while also providing the practical, the insightful and the insider knowledge to help you hit the ground running and make the most of every single moment you have in the Big Apple. Do I love New York? Absolutely. Will you love it by the time you've finished your visit? Certainly. Do I believe my book will help you enjoy a fantastic time? Beyond a shadow of a doubt! So go on, buy the book and visit. You'll never regret either decision for an instance - promise! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, well written guide book, 12 Feb 2004
This is one of many guide books I have bought over the years and can not recommend it enough. It is re-written ever year and contains lots of hints and tips which you won't find in the majority of guidebooks. The book includes a discount card in the back which can be used for discounts as well as free gifts and no one can complain at that! The 2004 edition includes a mini A-Z map in the centre of the book which is fantastic for planning your days shopping & soaking in the culture.

If you want an enjoyable, easy to read guide book with plenty of information - buy The Brit's Guide!

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable and easy to read guide to New York., 10 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This Guide to New York is so fun and easy to read.
Out of all of the Guides we have for our family's trip to New York this is the best by far.
The Writer gives great tips on what to do and where to go if you are only staying a short time in the Big Apple!
The only fault we have is it is a bit light on the accomodation front however it has great tips on where to eat ect. DO NOT THINK ABOUT GOING TO NEW YORK WITHOUT THIS GUIDE!

5.0 out of 5 stars A tasty bite of the big apple, 9 Mar 2001

A Brit's Guide To New York Karen Marchbank Foulsham £7.99 Reviewed by Jackie Foottit

I CAN'T fault this travel guide. Having experienced the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, I can appreciate how tiring a visit there can be when you're trying to fit everything in. The author of this gem has cleverly divided New York into parcels so that the traveller can explore a segment at a time, concentrate on that area then visit the next parcel. Neat idea. This book has everything you'll need for your visit Stateside plus the added bonus of a NYCard giving you welcome discounts during your trip. Don't leave town without one.
