A wonderful collection of some nostalgic films of British life, mostly in the 1950s. It's not just train lovers will enjoy this but anybody who enjoys watching films of real life in that era. It's worth it just for "Elizabethan Express" and "Snowdrift at Bleath Gill". Finally available on DVD after years of waiting this DVD contains great looking picture quality with hardly any MPEG artifacts from beautifully restored films. Obviously this has been carefully and lovingly put together.

Magnificent 14 Jan 2009
This dvd set is worth it for the scenes of snow being cast aside by the steam operated snow ploughs alone! All the films are not only very well produced (as was always the case with BTF productions) but also show an historical view of a railway system now long gone in terms of steam traction and all other aspects of operation. They also serve as great sociological documents indicating a society which again has changed out of all recognition (as well as the more obvious, little nauances such as the comment 'a bit like eating landlady's cake' come to mind).

If you are inetrested in railway, engineering or social history or just want to be inspired by large amounts of snow being thrown to the side of the track or enormous steam beam engines at work, you will not be disappointed with this set.

ON AND OFF THE RAILS 14 Jan 2010
What an absolute delight watching these british transport films on this dvd going back to the early 1950s,I`ve gathered acouple of these collections in the past, although shot over fifty years ago,(Most of them)they are digitally remastered. My favorites have to be the Elizabethan Express, and The snow drift at Bleath Gill.Finishing off with the late Sir John Betjemans goes by train. And under the the river. The construction of the the severn tunnel under the Bristol Channel, what an eye opener of Engineering. British of course at it`s very best. This is`nt just for the Train buff,This should be shown at History lessons across the country.Wish i brought the complete collection now from Amazon at there great discounted price.Buy it you won`t be disappointed.
